Honestly, essays will be mediocre. Not only am I a half-decent writer, there just isn't enough time to write all of these amazingly.

90 Views… no responses. C’mon guys. :(

All BS/MD programs are insanely competitive. One school I know of had 900 applicants for 10 spots. All those I’m familiar with require two rounds, a first round based on stats and essays and a second based on interviews. Nobody here or elsewhere can begin to give you a realistic assessment of your chances.

your chances are slim, as is the norm for everyone for these programs. count yourself lucky if you make it in one or more and have a choice. good luck!

Thanks guys. I know these programs in general are VERY tough to get into, and I understand that chances are probably that I’d be lucky to get into even one. My question to you guys, though, is do you think it’s really even worth it for me to apply to any of these? In other words, with my statistics, should I even bother to apply (are the stats too low to even be considered?)?

Your stats will not eliminate you from consideration - so yes, you have a chance.

So some updates, in case next year’s students were wondering.

Programs I applied to:

 1. U Cinci - Denied Interview
 2. Drexel - Denied Interview
 3. Case - Denied Interview
 4. Rice - No Response yet
 5. Kentucky - No response Yet
 6. Brown - No Response Yet
 7. Stevens - No Response Yet

Never expected too much anyway, and going to pursue my back-up, most likely, but nevertheless somewhat disheartening. I will use this as an opportunity to drive home to next year’s students really understand what/who they’re up against when applying for admissions to these competitive programs. You really have to make sure you don’t put all your eggs in one BS/MD basket (sorry for the cliche), and verify that you know what you will be doing in case you don’t get into any of these programs. Please make sure that the BS/MD programs are at schools you would actually go to. Also, sure I got into Drexel and UCinci (but not the BSMDs), but there’s almost no way i’m going to either of those universities without a BSMD offer. I have pretty much wasted some other kid’s chance to go to college. I would almost go as far to say that only apply to BSMDs where you think you might still go to the university even if you do not get into the program. If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to message me. :)

Don’t feel bad about “wasting someone’s chance to get into college.” Colleges accept more people than they expect to matriculate. Even Harvard has a matriculation rate of only 76% (see here: [Yield rate sees slight decline | Yale Daily News](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2010/may/27/yield-rate-sees-slight-decline/))

If they have to they’ll just take someone from the waitlist.

Thanks for sharing your story nndv. Best of luck to you on the other programs. I hope you get some good news! :)

After going through this process and reading posts and speaking with people, my best suggestion would be to apply to any program you are interested in if you meet the minimum qualifications. It isn’t just stats - it’s the whole picture. It is tough to say exactly what they are looking for. You need to try.

Like you said @nndv94, there isn’t time to write good essays for all of them (I think my daughter did about 14 revisions on hers) so choose the ones you really like.

Other than combined programs my daughter applied for programs where people posted requirements she didn’t have and she was still selected - so you don’t always know if you have what they are looking for - just try.

Also I noticed your Recs were from high school teachers. Did you not send one in from your research PI?
