I’m not to familiar with these schools but it looks like you have a good chance, UVA seems like an ideal option since you are in state, it has a very good business school.
Your EC’s are good, lots of fluff but also lots of good stuff! I would really emphasize on how diverse you are (speaking multiple languages, etc). Also use your internships to show your real world experience and that you aren’t just good at taking tests, but working well in a team environment. Good luck man!
Can’t chance you for business. But for history or biz, an early C+ in chem shouldn’t be a major factor.
Your chances for the more competitive schools on your list will depend on just how well you do with the app and any supps. That’s where you make a self presentation and how you do it can make a difference. It’s more than ‘just’ the essay.
UVA is no safety for anyone. Its a crazy situation where they try to offer opportunity throughout the state.
Colleges will want to see your freshman year grades from your year in Singapore. Some will add those to your Virginia high school GPA to average out your real GPA. Other colleges may just want the 10th-12th grades.
You will have to read the individual colleges rules when it comes to which years’ grades/transcripts they require.
@fauve What my school is doing is just submitting my freshman year grades on a separate transcript and my current school grades on the school’s transcript, so the admissions officer will hold two pieces of paper in their hands. I already calculated an unweighted GPA of 3.66. However, my school’s reporting weighted GPAs and will only actually report my 10th and 11th years. This had led me to believe that:
a) The college will calculate my unweighted GPA for comparison
or
b) The college will just use the number that my school is sending while also looking at my freshman year grades for further reference.
@fauve I’ll be applying early to a lot of my safeties/match schools since I want one more semester in my senior year to boost the GPA and continue an upward trend, and hence apply to UVA/BC/Gtown as a regular applicant.
You typically have to submit all transcripts from all of the high schools you attended. Colleges typically take each grade you receive (include some and exclude some) and reweigh your GPA with their own unique formula. Don’t get caught up on your perceived weighted GPA bc the colleges will recompute it to their unique formula.
Best of Luck- I think you will have many acceptances on your list!
You seem pretty similar to me statistically, I’d say all the schools are a match except for UVA and Georgetown, which are both low reaches. If you’re from Fairfax County in Virginia (I am!), it will be significantly harder to get into UVA then elsewhere in state, because of the competitiveness of the area. Georgetown also really likes 3 SAT subject tests, so if you have two others that you can take in the fall they would help. (JW, Are you an FCPS student?)
