bumpp

Being an Indian kid who wants to become a cardiologist doesnā€™t really work towards your favor because of the obvious stereotype, but your profile is still excellent.

That GPA may hurt for the tippy top schools, but the upward trend is great. I think you will get into at least one (probably several) of your reach schools. Good luck.

@SJNccc thanks a lotā€¦do you think i stand a chance at penn ed (or is that what you meant by tippy top schools)

I strongly believe that you have a chance at Penn ED. Make sure you are absolutely willing to attend, and of course, visit the school multiple times prior to making this decision.

On a different note, have you considered applying to schools where you might be able to get significant merit aid? There is no need to attend an expensive private school if your intention is to attend medical school in the future. This option could save you and your family a lot of money (which could perhaps be used to pay for medical school).

Are you an international applicant?

Nope @pineapple86

What were your AP scores so far, and what is your SAT I score?

@CorpusChristi All 4/5. 1490 SAT.

I think you have great chances at all of these schools- make sure to elaborate on some of your extracurriculars. For example, did you win competitions singing Indian vocal (actually curious, did you?)? Did your Wolverines of Wall Street club do anything? Did the Young Philosophers write anything? Be specific in your common app. Also, your chances at state schools such as UVA depend on if youā€™re in or out of state.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19813138/#Comment_19813138

Honestly, most of these arenā€™t huge reaches man. The hardest ones will most likely be a few of the ivies and Duke. Your GPA may be a little low for Vandy, but your amazing class rank more than makes up for it.

Your ECā€™s need to be narrowed and stream-lined.
Just my opinion. Right now, it looks like a laundry list, padding which the adcoms donā€™t like.
Donā€™t include anything below 9th grade.

Every student in Honors and AP classes gets this invitation. It just shows you paid several thousand dollars for an EC. Be aware of whatā€™s common to all high achieving students.

First generation hook? Neither of your parents had education beyond high school anywhere, even in India?

So did you read about something medical and write up a paper on it? You wrote ā€œmedicalā€ articles without that MD behind your signature? Did you state that you werenā€™t an MD in that e-magazine? Does it contribute to a new medical procedure that is in practice? Do not misrepresent yourself. If you pretended to be a practitioner, that is medical malpractice.

UCLA and Berkeley will be tough, but if you are instate, your chances are better. If you are OOS, youā€™ll be paying full fees, so you may have some chance. These schools donā€™t have a ā€œpremedā€ major.
Your GPA is good, but the instate competition is better. Trying to compensate the GPA with a laundry list of activities, will show that your ECā€™s were more important than the grades.
Streamline and keep it simple. Your essays will convey the work in a better manner.

Iā€™m wondering about how much of this is actually true, because I searched and there hasnā€™t been an Indian Kid on the USA swim team in about 9 years, and it would be impossible to balance all of the full time commitment ecā€™s like its just not adding up. @ā€œaunt beaā€ your opinion on this?

lol not the actual usa swim teamā€¦part of usa swimming @RoadTriptoCollege2017 there are tons of ā€œusa swimā€ clubs (its a swim association as far as I understand)ā€¦our team is terrible (we are in a very competitive league with some big time clubs and we have lost literally every meet)ā€¦everything here is true I have nothing to gain by lying to everyone because Iā€™m here for the cold hard truthā€¦

@auntbea no, obviously I donā€™t have an MD to my nameā€¦it is a family run e magazineā€¦I read about new medical findings and just wrote about themā€¦no impersonation/malpractice/funny businessā€¦tbh its nothing that special but itā€™s something I like to doā€¦so I just put it onā€¦this is not my final resume I just wanted to list them all out and see what people thought

If you advertise yourself well, you have a really high chance of getting into any of the colleges on your list. Stay optimistic but realistic. People on CC tend to be overly critical, but in reality, Iā€™ve seen lots of Asians/Indians get into HYPSM with less impressive stats
