It is sweater day at my high school! We had 15 students get into Harvard (so slightly intimidated lmao) but it’s awesome to see where my classmates are going!! 6 of us are going to Northeastern (Huskies >>> any other mascot I’m sorry not sorry) /happily

On a more serious note, my vision is acting up and we have an appointment with my specialist for early July… sighs let’s just hope it doesn’t act up further. /sighing

I’ll keep y’all updated about my meetup with NUEQ tomorrow!! /warmly

Does Harvard have a program for enrolling students from Cambridge high schools?

cough cough cough well… Cambridge has only one public high school… or high school in general. /sheepishly

but no- our high school has an affiliation with Harvard, so that’s why so many students matriculate every year- the school pledges a certain amount of slots to our seniors (per my GC) /softly

My guess is a good number of faculty kids, I agree up near another Ivy and that was the case.

Harvard does have a program with Boston Latin.

Surprised. Based on population (even though with a lot less kids than usual) I expected 2-3 high schools. I wonder if a huge number of kids go to private schools.

we have 2,000 kids in our high school. so pretty much everyone in Cambridge attends my HS unless they want to go to a private school. /sighing

also completely random but if anyone’s a Northeastern alum and can share on their experience in undergrad either here or in DMs, I would appreciate it! I just wanna hear from those who’ve experienced the school already, see what to look out for and what to avoid. /warmly

Harvard pledges 15 spots a year to crls? Wow, hard to believe. Frustrating, too. My kid attended a very good and socioeconomically and racially diverse inner ring suburban northeast public school, with sig higher school stats than crls, just under 400 kids per grade, and harvard seems to take one kid a decade, usually hooked URM. My kid made it in, but honestly there seemed to be 20 every year with stronger creds who dont make it into any tippy tops or even T20.

Yup…that’s CRLS for you. /sheepishly

Several colleges have such policies about their host communities. Tufts accepted 96 students from Medford, Somerville, Boston and Grafton (where they have campuses) this year.

This. Yeah, Harvard and CRLS are like that, too. /honestly

Isn’t this better than allocating 20 slots to Exeter, 15 to Choate, 12 to Dalton and 10 to Harvard-Westlake, regardless of the quality of those applicants? In the good old days, it was easier for an affluent slacker from Groton to get into Harvard than for a top top top first gen kid from a public HS with high need. Can’t imagine the preference for local HS kids is as problematic as the old days…

Northwestern has the same relationship with Evanston THS

Better for the local public school kid. Worse for the rest of the nation.

It’s a worse outcome when dozens of prep school kids no longer get into Harvard with a phone call from the headmaster? This is worse for the rest of the nation???

Those “Gentleman C’s” in the 1950’s sure weren’t doing “the rest of the nation” any favors by skating through prep school, skating through the Ivy League, and then waltzing into the banking/wealth management job of their choice!

In advance, please don’t argue over this. CRLS has an affiliation with Harvard, hence the pledged spots. That’s all. /warmly

Also: I’m getting more NEU merch!! /happily

If you read my post, you will see i was discussing public schools, and the rest of the nation, not elite boarding school pipelines.

That’s what I call the “you can’t there from here” dynamic. Was the same at my kid’s middle- class 128 Beltway public high school.
Never knew that about CRLS. Now guessing there’s a similar relationship with H & BLS. (Sorry to OP if this is off topic) Congratulations to OP BTW!
