I wrote my Common App essay about how I’ve always loved science, thought I wanted to major in bio and cure my diabetes, then I went to a psych hospital in freshman year for anxiety (which explains my low freshman year grades as well) and a teacher there helped me realize the power of words and that i want to teach high school English to help other students realize that. My junior year IB English teacher and senior year IB English teacher checked it and helped me revise it many times and they loved it. I think I successfully talked about a touchy experience without causing concern. I focused more on the now than the past.
I wrote my personal statement about why I dropped the IB Diploma and pursued my IB Certificates instead. I had taken Chinese for years and was planning to continue for IB, and my school dropped all Chinese classes. I was put into an IB Spanish class and after months of fighting with myself I finally dropped it because I realied I wouldn’t have the time to properly learn 4 years of a language in less than 2.
My reccomendations from my teachers should be really good. One is from my IB Bio teacher who had me last year and this year, the other is from my IB English teacher from last year.
My counselor wrote a really nice recommendation about how much I’ve grown and gone from someone who could barely make it to school to someone who strives for the best.
