Chance me for the top universities?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could tell me if I'm a competitive applicant for the following:

For the Ivies, am I a strong competitive applicant? And am I a reach or match for the others?

Harvard

Columbia

Stanford

Georgetown

Brown

Cornell

Vanderbilt

Johns Hopkins

Swarthmore

ACADEMICS:

SAT: 2300
UW GPA is 3.95 W GPA is 4.562
School doesn't rank but I'm confident that I'm 2 to 4/105
6 pre-AP classes 10 AP classes

AWARDS (they're not that good):

Questbridge Finalist, chosen for AMC 10 and 12, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, possibly Intel Semifinalist, 3 time Spanish National Exam Honorable Mention, few MUN conferences at different universities, like Rhodes College

Extracurriculars:

HELP TO OTHERS:
-Tutoring little kids at a church
-Came up with an idea in which our school has a group (I'm the leader) and we go to poor schools and help the kids learn more. We use the teaching material through a website and it is in supplement to what the teacher teaches. Education sucks here in my state.
-Made an NGO where I connect a poor family with an affluent family and the rich family mails the poor family any items that they don't need or want. You sign up through a website and it's all done through the website. My state is very poor.
-Amnesty International secretary: We raised money to build a girl's school in Asia and we raised money for raped girls in Asia
-Created an app in the App Store that spreads awareness about many global issues, and I have a list of organizations on every topic that people can donate to
-Kumon tutor
-Reading to toddlers at the library
-Helping out in the library (stacking books and things of that nature)

BREAST CANCER:
-Volunteering for a breast cancer NGO
-Internship at breast cancer research lab at a university
-Started a breast cancer club
-Thinking about getting Intel Semifinalist with a project on breast cancer

LAW AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:
-Model UN president
-Internship at a University about international relations
-Attended two summer camps about law
-Intern for a law firm

SOCCER:
-Soccer Club and School
-Assistant soccer church league coach for kids
-Attended a soccer camp one summer

EXTRA:
-Ethnicity is Asian, but low-income
-First generation immigrant from Central Europe where I was born (I know, weird)
-Speak 3 languages fluently and I am learning a fourth, Spanish
-Quiz Bowl
-Independent Research

And that's about it! Thanks for reading all that! I would appreciate any comments!

Oh and I think I’ll be applying ED to Columbia University!

Harvard: Reach
Stanford: Reach
Columbia ED: Reach (but lower than Stanford or Harvard)
Georgetown: High match
Brown: Reach
Cornell: High match
Vanderbilt: High match
JHU: High match
Swarthmore: Reach

Have a safety?

Thinking about Rhodes being a safety

Well rounded in grades, sufficient in awards/honors, and incredible ECs. I’d say Harvard Stanford and Brown are reaches…but the rest I’d say you’re at least within the match range. Your well developed interests are a significant bonus–basically, you’ve got a reasonably good shot just about anywhere.

Thanks a lot! You’d say that Columbia is not a reach for me?

Great shot at a lot of these schools! You have interesting ECs, your stats are fine, and your ethnicity is interesting. First gen immigrant will help, are you also first gen college? If not, being asian will hurt you. Basically, ivy admissions is a crapshoot at this point, but you have a good shot. Obviously, good essays and recs will help. And lastly, I’m assuming you have safeties in addition to this list.

Harvard:Reach
Columbia:Reach
Stanford:Reach
Georgetown: Low Reach
Brown:Low Reach
Cornell:Low Reach
Vanderbilt: High Match/Low Reach
Johns Hopkins: High Match (your med background really helps)
Swarthmore: High Match

Best of luck! Schools with a med focus will be a good idea. I’m not sure of your state, but some public ivies would be a good idea (I’m a california girl so the UCs come to mind, but UVA and William and Mary are also good bets). Plenty of schools would be overjoyed to have you. Best of luck!

Thanks a lot for chancing me! I’m from Mississippi, so there aren’t many good colleges here lol and I’m not first generation college so that sucks for me! Again thanks for your input!

I don’t say this to a lot of people, but I think you have good chances at any of those schools. Grades and test scores are great and ec’s are amazing. Just be sure to apply to some safeties.

Thanks a lot! I definitely will!

Also, how effective is it going to be that I apply ED instead of RD to Columbia University?

Harvard: Reach
Columbia: Reach
Stanford: Low Reach
Georgetown: Reach
Brown: Low Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
Vanderbilt: High match
Johns Hopkins: High match
Swarthmore: Reach

Applying Early decision to columbia will help definitely…GL!!!

Haha thanks man! But you’d but Stanford as easier to get into than Gtown?

your stats look good! keep working hard! Any of those colleges are reaches of course, but you still have a shot!

I think you might have a great shot at Harvard because they like to take many socially active people, and most of your ECs are like that. You should try applying Early-Action to Harvard.

Ok thanks a lot for your advice and input!

OP: it makes no sense to apply to Columbia ED (which is BINDING) if you are interested in Harvard or Stanford as your other choices…if you get into Columbia ED, you have to go barring any unusual circumstances…

…but, if you apply to either Harvard or Stanford SCEA which is non-binding (your choice) you can always apply to the rest of the schools in the regular round and have some schools to choose from in May…

Good luck.

Chancing back here!

Harvard: Reach (as it is for everyone who applies :stuck_out_tongue: )
Columbia: Reach (same as above)
Stanford: Reach (they have a very holistic approach so its soooo difficult to predict accurately, but you’re definitely a strong candidate)
Georgetown: Low Reach
Brown: Low Reach
Cornell: High Match
Vanderbilt: Match
Johns Hopkins: High Match
Swarthmore: Low Reach

Good luck!

Gravitas, thanks for your response. I just haven’t finalized where I want to apply ED or EA to. My top schools are Harvard, Columbia, and Stanford. I’m just unsure where to apply ED and where to apply EA, thanks a lot for your information

Hey good work, your breast cancer research is interesting! I think that will help you stand out to a degree. You definitely are qualified to get into an ivy league school, but it remains hard.
Columbia ED= Low reach. I think you’ve got a very solid shot.
Harvard + Stanford = Mid-high reach.
Brown= Reach
Cornell, Georgetown, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Swarthmore= Low reach. I imagine you would be accepted by at least one, probably more of these schools.
Good luck!
