I’m fairly new to this site, so feel free to harp on my post if there are things I’m doing wrong.
I’m a high school senior right now, and I have applied to the big 3 UC schools: Berkeley, LA, and San Diego.
I got a 2250 SAT, 770 math II, 760 physics. I got 5’s on the Calc AB and BC AP tests, and 4’s on the physics and french language test.
My grades are as follows:
Soph:
Choir A A
English 2 B+ A
Calc AB A A
French 3 A+ A+
Chemistry A A
Junior (the part that I’m worried about)
French 5 AP A+ A+
Calc BC B+ A
U.S. History C+ B
Choir A A
AP Physics A A
English 3 B+ A
And, since they sent me a disability supplement asking for my fall grades, this is my senior year:
Chamber Choir A
AP Statistics A
AP Biology A
Concert Choir A
AP Comparative Government B
English 4 A
Unweighted UC GPA: 3.73
Weighted UC GPA: 4.09
I have 300+ hours of unpaid peer tutoring and 4 years of cross-country, with 2 years on varsity. I have done 2 years of track and will complete another this year. I’ve also been in 2 musicals.
I go to a well-known public school that is generally considered extremely difficult, and the average GPA of students accepted into UC Berkeley from here is 3.75. My counselor told me that with my grades and test scores, I have a solid chance of getting into any of these schools. I have applied RD to all of them.
In addition, UC Berkeley asked me to fill out a supplemental application about a disability that I had mentioned in my application; I told them I have an auditory processing problem that makes it very difficult for me to deal with complex auditory information, especially while focusing on something else. This makes it near-impossible for me to learn while taking notes, so in classes like math and physics, I did great without them, but since they are required in History, I struggled. I also have an emotional disorder that made it very hard for me to work effectively in fall of junior year because I’d had to drop out of the cross-country team due to injury. I taught myself some work-around strategies after that semester to deal with both my auditory and emotional issues. I think that the fact that I’m doing better now in an AP history class should be a sign that I’ve improved.
So, my question is, what do you believe my chances are for the following schools if I applied Regular Decision?
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UC San Diego
Criticize as much as you want, I can take it.
