Chance me for the UC's?

Me: Junior, female, live in CA
GPA: W 3.75
SAT: 1960 (I am taking it again and plan to score higher)
EC: Women’s leadership club (President), Volunteering at a hospital 2 hours a week for 2 years, LAX for 3 years, Peer counselor, and every summer I don’t spend in Iran, I take an entire summer-long Farsi language class.

I would love to go to any UC (not UCR, UCSC, or UC merced) or SDSU!

Also (if I didn’t get into any UC’s) should I go to a state school such as Fullerton, etc.; or go to community and transfer to a UC? Thank you all so much, I’ve been having so much anxiety about where I’m gonna end up in the future :frowning:

UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

With 6 of the 9 UC’s that have an average UC GPA’s above 4.0, your GPA will be an issue. I think you should not exclude UCSC and UCR from your list since you stats put your on target for these schools. What is your intended major? The more competitive the major, the higher the GPA/Test scores are needed. Essays and EC’s will come into play, but GPA is king with the UC’s.

For the Cal States, you need to calculate your Eligibility index. You are then ranked on your EI and major.

(CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math+CR)

For SDSU, a good target EI is 4100+
For CSUF, a good target EI is 3900+

If you are set on attending a UC, then going the CCC route and possibly tagging to some of the UC’s is your best chance.

I agree, your GPA is going to be a red flag at all the UCs you are interested in. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply. Just know you will be an exception. UCR, UCSC, UCM are more likely but, you they will read your essay which means there’s no guarantee (unless your are ELC). SDSU and most of the CSUs seems pretty likely.

Check out some privates like USD and LMU, they may offer you some scholarship money.

Good luck.

I plan to apply as a history major. Does that increase my chances?

.

You’d probably be able to get into UCSC/the other low tier UCs, but it’s going to be touch getting into a mid-tier/top-tier UC with that GPA tho. And applying as a history major will give you a better chance of getting into the school over an applicant with similar stats as yours applying as an engineering, CS or any other impacted majors, yes.
