Hi..so I messed up a little in highschool: I had an anxiety problem and didn't do well in sophomore year..I got around a 3.1 GPA, however, junior year, I got a 4.3 GPA..

So please chance me for the UC's: UC santa cruz, irvine, santa barbara, los angeles, etc. Also Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo?? Thanks..

I am a girl, senior in highschool in northern california
I have a 3.6 weighted GPA
my SAT score is a 1860

My extracurriculars are:
Figure skating since I was 6,
violin since i was 8 (in school orchestra freshman/sophomore years)
A tutor volunteer with a local program called Project Read, about 100 hours total
A volunteer at a nursing home, about 100 hours total
on the Nordstrom Fashion Board
took a course at the local community college over summer
Just joined Key Club this year :/
Have been in mostly AS/AP classes last year and this year.
work experience in two retail clothing stores

Major: Psychology (my essays are related to that...i explain my sophomore year grade drop due to anxiety problems)

I was born in russia, i am jewish, and I speak russian and farsi. (not sure if this counts, its related to one of my essay topics)

UCLA: High Reach
UC Santa Barbara: High Reach/Reach
UCI: Reach
UC Santa Barbara: Reach/Low Reach

Sorry I am not really familiar with the other schools.

Overall, I think that your relatively low SAT score and GPA will definitely hurt you in the long run. If you have taken a difficult course load, it will certainly help you. However, a 3.6 W GPA is still a bit low regardless of your AP/honors.

Nevertheless, keep in mind that the UC application process is becoming a lot more holistic, so writing good essays will be a great advantage!

Best of luck!

Chance me back? : )

i <3 getting this many replies…nawt

ucsc - match
ucsb - low reach, reach
ucla - high reach
uc irvine - low reach
cal poly slo - low reach

consider also applying to ucsd and uc davis. most people are unsure on judging chances on your whole grade upward trend.

You should definetly apply to UC Davis. Yes, your SAT scores are low and gpa is low, but if you work really hard on your essays, that would help you so much! Also, have you received in any awards? How are your SAT subject scores? You should try taking SAT again if you can. Was the 1860 your first score? if it was, definetly try again! i heard your 2nd score almost always is higher than the 1st score. however, your ecs and internship look good, so you have a decent chance in many of the other ucs! good luck! p.s.: i (and many others here at this site) would appreciate if you don’t post negative comments to other threads (like you did on mine yesterday…). this is a great site (and i agree, there are a lot of envious kids with spectacular gpas and sat scores), but what can we (the less smarter ones) do? but please, respect this site and the people on it. thanks! :)

Santa Cruz: you are in

Irvine, UCSB, and Davis are all probably slight reaches. Your SAT is about the average for those three, but your gpa is a bit lower, i think the avg is 3.9 (roughly). But like the above poster said you still have the essays which could help a lot. Good job on junior year, you helped yourself out a lot there. that upward trend will look really good!
