Chance me for these business schools!

Hi, I'm a junior planning for college, and need a bit of help deciding on a list of colleges. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Stats and Extracurriculars:

GPA: 4.1 weighted (my school doesn't report unweighted)

SAT: Haven't taken it yet, but I got a 195 on my PSAT. However, I was very sick on testing day and I believe I will do better on the SAT, as I'm also taking a prep course. (I've taken a lot of practice tests and usually get around 2150).

ACT: Planning to take it.

SAT Subject Test: Molecular Biology - 730, planning to take Math II and U.S. History in June.

AP: 5 on AP Biology

Rank: My school doesn't report rank, but I am pretty certain I am in the top 5%.

Class Schedule: (Class and overall grade)

9th Grade:
English - A
Health - A
Integrated Social Science - A
Spanish 1 - A
Stock Market - A
Honors Integrated Math 2 - A
Honors Intro to Physics - A
Honors Programming in Java - A

10th Grade:
British Literature - A
Phys. Ed. - A
Honors Chemistry - A
Honors Integrated Math 3 - B
Honors Spanish 2 - A
Honors World History - A
AP Biology - A

11th Grade (so far)
Honors Anatomy/Physiology - A
Honors Spanish 3 - A
Honors U.S. History - A
AP Calculus AB - A
AP Chemistry - A
AP English Language and Composition - A

12th Grade (planned schedule)
AP Calculus BC
AP Government and Politics
AP Statistics
AP Economics
AP English Language and Literature
Honors Physics
Honors International Relations

Ethnicity - Kosovar: My entire family and I were born in Kosovo and are refugees here after fleeing the country due to a war/genocide.

Hook: First generation college applicant

School: Number 1 school in Delaware, and ranked 19th in the nation for math and science. Super competitive with students going to all types of schools including Harvard, Yale, UPenn, etc.

Extracurriculars and other Activities (this is where I think I'm not as strong in because I don't have a ton of EC's, but I am dedicated).

Model UN: All 3 years, many awards.

Science Ambassadors: 9th and 10th grade

World Quest: 10th and 11th grade, placed 4th last year.

Habitat for Humanity: All 3 years

Stock Market Club: Just started at my school this year.

Chemistry Olympiad: Just this year.

Immigrant Help Club - This is a soon-to-be club that my friend and I (who's also an immigrant/refugee like me) plan to start to help out immigrants.

Volunteer Hours:
About 20 hours from Science Ambassadors in which I tutor inner city kids in math/science.
Compassionate Care Hospice: 100+ hours

Work:
I referee competitive soccer games on weekends and in the summer (past 3 years).

I am interested in getting a degree in Finance/Business/Investments and Securities. Basically, something business related.

My dream school is Stern, but given their record with financial aid, I doubt I would be able to afford it as my family's income is less than $60,000 (but I can dream, can't I? ). Wharton would be great if I could get in, but I think that really depends on how high I can get my SAT. I also like U of Chicago, U of Michigan, and Haas. My safety school is University of Delaware (and possibly, but a very long shot, American University of Kosovo).

Given all of this, do I have a chance of getting into any of these schools? Are there any other schools I should consider? And also, will my story benefit my admission chances at all?

Thank you all in advance. I appreciate your help very much!

we have a lot in common! With the Kosovo war haha but im a year older
look into upenn for business!

haha cool! I’m looking into UPenn, and I’ll probably apply there, but it seems like getting into there is just luck. Where do you go to school? A fol shqip?

Po, qysh jo? Haha message me

NYU gives really crappy Financial Aid, as you’ve implied yourself. First gen is a hook, although not as big as URM. Your EC’s lack continuity/you don’t stand out in them. Your projected SAT does not look that high each either. Haas out of state pretty much implies you’re paying all the way, probably not a good idea for your family. Not sure how much of a leg up UChicago and Wharton give first-gen, but right now you look just so weaker than the average admitee to those schools (without considering your socioeconomic situation). Match for Michigan. My suggestion: focus on one EC in depth and do a gosh darn good job in it (try to aim for national level, business related would be nice given your interests/where you’re applying). Also nuke that standardized testing (SAT + ACT + subject tests). Best of luck.

Thanks a lot for the (honest) critique. I really appreciate it. I was wondering, how much of a role does the essay play in the admissions process at these schools? I have some ideas for a killer (at least I think so) essay regarding my personal story about how going through a war has shaped me as a person and whatnot.

I think Wharton is a reach, but you’ll get into NYU I’m sure. Additionally, if you want to boost your chances for Ross apply to the LSA school and then apply as a transfer after freshmen year. It’s a lot easier to do that.

Update!

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but now that I’ve almost completed junior year, I’d like some insight on my chances! Thanks!

SAT: Despite my low PSAT score of 195, I managed to get a 2240 on my SAT

SAT Breakdown: CR: 780
M: 760
WR: 700

I didn’t start the Immigrant Help Club I mentioned before due to some complications. However, I founded Business Professionals of America (BPA) at my school, and I am the president of the club.

I also started a website/blog on technology, which I am very passionate about. You can find it at fntechofficial.■■■■■■■■■■■■■.

Also, some awards:

Meritorious award for COMAP Math Modeling competition
1 of 4 state winners of the Common Wealth Awards for Distinguished Service Essay Contest. I got to meet Madeleine Albright, Wolf Blitzer, Kenneth Cole, and Judith Jamison.

Summer Activities:

I am interning with a professor at the University of Delaware this summer doing research in finance.

Now for the bad news:
I’m getting 2 B’s this year. They’re both 90%, so they’re not low B’s, but they’re B’s nonetheless. One of them is in Spanish III, and the other in AP Calculus AB.

Course Changes for Senior Year:

I’ll be taking Honors Spanish 4 instead of IR next year.

Thanks again!
