Chance me for these really good schools!!!!

I am a junior at a very competitive public high school and I am planning on majoring in either applied math or some type of engineering (possibly both?? idk I just really love anything with math applications) , with maybe economics/business on the side. I am really not sure yet haha.

I was wondering my chances for these schools:
MIT
Harvard
Columbia
CalTech
Stanford
UPenn
NYU (Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences)
UCLA
Brown
UT Austin
Rice
University of Chicago
Any other possible schools that I could look at given my interest in major? I really think location is kind of important too.

These are my qualifications:
Race: Asian
Gender: Male

Freshman Year:
AP Human Geography, A/A
Art Honors, A/A
Geometry Honors, A/A
Algebra 2 Honors, A/A

AP Statistics, A/A
AP Computer Science , A/A
AP World History, B/B (sad, I know)
Chemistry Honors, A/A
Spanish III Honors, A/A
English II Honors, B/A

Junior Year:
AP Calculus BC, B/A (the first semester I had a 100, but the week of finals my grandfather passed away and I when I found out in school I could not even finish my semester exam so my grade fell from a 100 to an 88 as the result).
AP Chemistry, A/A
AP Physics B, A/A
AP Biology, B/A
AP Environmental Systems, A/A
AP English III Language and Composition, A/A
AP US History, A/A

Classes I am planning on taking Senior Year:

Engineering Dynamics II: Mechanics (Independent Study , will be the only one)
History of Math (Independent Study, will be the only one)
AP Physics C
AP English IV Literature
AP Macroeconomics
AP Government
AP Art History AP
AP Psychology

As you can see I have taken only AP courses and honors courses. (3 Independent Study Courses, 18 AP classes, 11 Honors Courses) It is not uncommon in my school for people to take a lot of AP classes and such, but nobody takes as many as I do.

My Current Rank is 1 out of 710 people, but after this year because of difficulties going on in my family I feel my rank will drop to somewhere between 2-5 out of 710 people. My SAT score is only 2020 because I went and took it blindly for the first time (although 800 in math ), but I am retaking it soon and I feel strongly I will get around a 2200-2250. I have only taken 1 Subject SAT test so far which was the Math II which I took my freshman year and scored an 800.

Extra Curriculars:
2028 service hours (volunteered at a Hospice care nursing center for patients with terminally ill diseases until it closed down, then I volunteered at a hospital, I have recieved the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award every year)

Many Math Awards (around 60-70 total awards accumulated in the 3 years so far of high school), including winning my school district's math competition my sophomore year of high school competing against seniors (won first place team award as well both sophomore and freshman year). In addition there were various state competitions I attended which I either won or came close to winning.

Member of Math Club 9th,10th,11th grade (Secretary in 9th grade, president in 10th and 11th)

Math competitive team (Captain in 10th and 11th grade)

Vice President of Underclassman Honor Society (10th grade)

National Honor Society (will run for officer later this year)

One of 10 people on the Prom Planning Committee (11th grade)

Science Bowl (Captain in 9th, 10th, 11th)

Quiz Bowl (11th grade)

I am a math tutor

I also have an internship this summer at a research facility with a staff scientist who will help me develop a research project to present to various places, schools, and organizations. I believe this will help me develop my interest in the applications of math in the real world.

bump!!!

Oh I also do not qualify for financial aid for that matter

chance me and I will chance you back!! :)

bump!!! come on guys haha views and no comments… Ill chance you! :)

wow 350 views and no comments?? BUMP!!! please chance me! :)

Bumppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Asian Male

If you get 2350+ and few 800s, then

MIT, Harvard, Columbia, CalTech, Stanford, UPenn, Brown, Chicago: Reaches
Rice: Decent chances
NYU, UCLA: Very good chances
UT: Great chances

bumpppppppppppppppppppppp

Assuming your essays/recs are fantastic, and you bring your SAT up, your a match for Rice, Chicago, Columbia and Brown, UPenn.
I’d say your in at UT, NYU, UCLA.

Like for anyone MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech are reaches, just because you never really know what to expect. I’d say you have a shot at all!

chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1294761-chance-me-will-chance-back.html

if you bring your SAT 2300, your in good shape. Your ECs are average outside of math and service., so if you gain a few more and write good essays, i would say your golden. Award wise those small awards are great, but how have you achieved in USAMO? Only that will provide true merit.

“Assuming your essays/recs are fantastic, and you bring your SAT up, your a match for Rice, Chicago, Columbia and Brown, UPenn.”

Match for Rice but there is no such thing as match for Chicago, Columbia, Brown and Penn.

…

There is no such thing as matches at the very top colleges if you are an Asian male.
I found that out last year.

what do you mean?
match means that the school is on-par with the applicants stats.

I (and few of my friends, all Asian males) had numbers that would put me (us) in top 10% of every college in the UNIVERSE.

We collected so many rejection and WL letters from HYPSM, Columbia, Penn and Chicago.

OP will get into some good colleges…

But, there is no such thing as match schools at the very top level.

Match does not mean the OP will get accepted. As said before, match means the OP stats are on par.
I’m sure lots of other males (of every race) with fantastic scores received rejection letters as well. Of course, other things do come into play when it comes to admission i.e. ability to convey passion, intellectual curiosity etc. etc.
So at the end of the day, I’d say once sats are up OP is a match for Rice, Chicago, Columbia and Brown. Regardless of his ethnicity and especially because he seems to have an intense interest in math, and crazy amount of community hours.

Chicago, Brown, Columbia and Penn RD rates are all below 10%.
They are reach schools (for everybody) without hooks.

“Regardless of his ethnicity …”
In a fantasy land!

I get what your saying, yes, with all those schools there is the no guarantee, and very few are admitted; yes, ethnicity does play a role in the admissions process. Regardless of his ethnicity, however, his stats are still good. If he was white his rank and GPA would be fantastic, if he was black it’d be fantastic.

OPs stats (especially his rank - which places like penn really look at) are on par, which is why I said those schools were a match, thus he should not worry about his stats. What comes into play now is his essays/recs etc.
If you don’t think he’s a match, I’d see why*, and that’s cool too; the beauty of getting different perspectives.

Thank you guys a bunch! so basically I just need to really focus on my SATs? ill also look for some more ECs but im not sure what else there is outside of service, math and science, and Prom committee… any ideas? and I will chance you all right now haha thanks again :). Is it also possible that the choice of major I take will increase admission possiblities? Is applied math in high demand at any of these schools?

Yup, focus on SATs!

As for ECs, I remember you mentioning something about a research internship? Definitely do that.

When they ask for your intended major it’s not because they will admit x amount of potential science majors, x amount of philosophy majors etc etc. It’s very likely for someone’s major to change.
If someone says they intend for math to be their major, admissions committee won’t be “oh we don’t have many people interested in math - let’s admit him; we need more math people!” Really, at least what I’ve been told, is that it’s just too get an idea of what your interested in; to see how you have already taken advantages and expanded opportunities in that interest. Hopefully, that kind of answers your question.

Bring your SAT up and you’re good for pretty much all of them. I think the highest I see there are low reaches
