Emory - Reach
USC - Slight Reach
Brandeis - Match
Indiana (direct admit to Kelley Business school) - Match
Michigan - Reach (OOS), they also love GPA

Wow, I am also applied to IU business (accepted) and Emory (in the works).

In regards to chances:

Emory is a big reach: average GPA is a 3.7, your writing SAT is a bit low, but your other SAT scores are fine. Also, your EC lack a common theme, I would try to bring one or two to the forefront and really develop them on your app. Show STRONG interest.

IU: You will absolutely get in, howeverm you cannot get direct admit to their b-school because you don't meet the criteria: SAT 1270 ( you are fine here) and a 3.5 or top 10% of class (that's what gets you unless you are top 10% which you say they don't calculate).

USC: A reach b/c OOS

The others I am not familiar enough w/ to talk about. Good luck!

I'm interested in knowing exactly what your GPA is. If it comes out to be a 3.4, then Kelley won't accept you, you need a 3.5, however, you will still get into IU with a nice scholarship. Michigan is all about GPA, it's a reach with a 3.4 being OOS.

wolfman, i know my ECs are sort of all over the place but I thought that might be good to show diversity. I have a common theme in that I have business honor society, investment club, multiple college business courses. I also stressed my strong leadership role on the swim team. Do you have any suggestions on which ones I can bring to the forefront, or any other ideas?

I think that if you are able to find a common theme (i.e. leadership) and tie it into your interest in business using your ECs then that would be good IMO. However, because your ECs are a bit weak/ not really uniquely eye-catching (which is fine) you want to use a strong anecdote that demonstrates your stengths and that will engage the adcoms. Good luck!

hey njcanen how do you know jw cause my gpa is a 3.63 but at my school that is about a 95 average am i just really screwed or what

I just do it by ratio. In her case, 89:100 = x:4, x turns out as 3.56. I am pretty sure it is not the final one, but she also did not know an equivalent one, 3.56 is the one for her.

In my case, I do the IBs and my school doesn't calculate GPA, so I am pretty sure my GPA will be higher than my average since I do a terrificly hard course that is not graded normally.

You will probably not get into: Emory, Michigan
You have a decent chance to get into: USC, Brandeis
You will get into: SUNY Binghamton, Syracuse, Indiana (direct admit to Kelley Business school), Maryland
