Your credentials seem excellent. Congratulations on being a USAMO qualifier and USACO. With a candidate such as yourself, designating schools as “targets” and “dreams” does not make a lot of sense if by that you are suggesting the “targets” as easier to gain entry to then the “dreams” Depending upon major, Chicago would be as difficult as those in the category above. I hope that you have listed them in terms of order of preference cause you seem like a great fit to the school listed 1st. You’d find a great group of peers with similar interests there (as you would at the others but especially at your 1st listed school). Nice that you have already taken differential equations! I understand the rationale behind all those listed but Harvard-which brings a big “why”. Yes I know they have this huge gift etc, but you have MIT written all over you!

Although you are an extremely competitive and impressive applicant, you will get into several of the schools listed, but still consider UCLA a Reach school, UCSB and UCD target schools. I would call SJSU a safety.

Average SAT for UCLA CS admits this past admission cycle was 1550 and with an 8.2% acceptance rate, not a guarantee.

@Gumbymom Wow, I didn’t know the average SAT was that high for UCLA CS majors! Where did you get that information? Based off Niche, I’m at the 72nd percentile among CS majors at UCLA in terms of SAT and GPA (but then, the Niche data is from Niche users, which might not be very accurate).

@lostaccount To be honest I probably won’t apply to Harvard. It’s sort of just there. I’ve never really wanted to go to Harvard, but have considered applying at times for the prestige. And yes, MIT is my top school. :slight_smile:

OP, you want to look at the figures the colleges supply, not Niche. And what they say (and show) they value and look for. Hope you found the MIT admissions blogs.

You’ll face a lot of competition from the Bay Area. And the top colleges’ desire for geographic diversity.

Best wishes.

@ktong77: The UCLA CS stats are courtesy of a UCLA student ambassador and UCLA forum champion @10s4life.

@ktong777 Ya I can verify those stats are correct. The admit rate per major should be published for general viewing in the HSSEAS Anouncement posted on the website. Admit scores by Major are not published though for public access. Your stats are very good though. Best of luck!

You should get in hopefully! Good luck!

@yamwhatyam Thank you!!

If I were a betting man, I say you will get into UCLA, CMU, Berkeley and MIT but not Stanford. Why do I say this? Because you are not just an excellent student, but seem to be talented in your area. You might get deferred from one of your safeties because they might want you to show a greater demonstration of love. I would say to apply to one Honors College for merit money.

Did you ever finish your Eagle Scout? I seem to remember that you were asking about it during the summer in another thread.

If you did not have your Board of Review, you cannot say that you are an Eagle Scout in any college apps, although you can say that your Board of Review is pending.

Dang nice stats bro. Congrats!

I would say that you will be one of the top applicants for all your schools. I would guess that you will get into at least one of your dream schools as long as those essays are good. Best of luck!
