Summer: Governor’s School of Sciences and Research
At the end of HS I would have taken 11 APs the rest honors
Colleges I’m looking at: Brown, Michigan, UCLA, Berkeley, UNC Chapel Hill, UVA, Boston College, Northwestern, WUSTL, USC, Emory, CMU, Vandy, WFU
Thank you sm and I will chance back!

Where were you before?

Northwestern is an awesome school, you’ll have a chance anywhere.

What is your UC GPA and intended major? that is more important for UCB and UCLA. Pretty good, if you could get a 34 and your GPA to a 3.9 then you will be golden. Overall here are my thoughts:
Brown: waitlist/reject (not high enough yet)
Michigan: waitlist (if in state Michigan then accept)
UCLA: waitlist/accept (depending on UC GPA)
UCB: Waitlist (depending on UC GPA and major)
UNC: Accept
UVA: waitlist (depending if in-state)
BC: accept
NU: reject (depends on race and major. kids with 36 ACT and 4.5 GPA’s get rejected)
WUSTL: waitlist
USC: waitlist/accept
Emory: waitlsit/accept
CMU: waitlsit/reject (depends on subject tests, they love math and sciene)
Vandy: waitlist/accept
WFU: idk really, accept?

Check my profile for a chance back. Its mostly the same except a slight GPA improvement to 4.35 and some other small stuff

@ANormalSeniorGuy thank you! I will chance back. I am not instate for any of the schools I listed above

Brown-reject,GPA
Michigan-accept
UCLA-reject avg gpa is over 4.0
Berkeley-good shot
UVA-waitlist/accept
Boston College-accept
Northwestern-decent shot
WUSTL-waitlist
USC-reject
Emory-reject
CMU-waitlist
Vandy-accept
WFU-accept

I would suggest taking the sat and some subject tests as it will probably help your chances and it definitely won’t hurt.
Brown- reject
Michigan- accept
UCLA-waitlist
Berkeley-waitlist
UNC Chapel Hill-waitlist/accept
UVA-wait list
Boston College-accept
Northwestern-reject
I am not super familiar with WUSTL, USC, Emory, CMU, Vandy or WFU (I live in the northeast) but again I would suggest taking the SATs to help your chances.

@oklivxo I have a UC GPA of about 4.3 ish would that help for UCLA and UC Berkeley?
@erf1013 ive taken the SAT before and did not do so well so i feel like the ACT is more of my thing. For subject tests, I am taking Math 2 and Bio later this year.
Thanks!!!

You seem like a very good candidate. Are you still living abroad? What is your rank? Wake Forest really takes into consideration whether or not you have visited the school, and an on-campus interview is very important.

You’re OOS so you would need to recalculate the UC weighted GPA. Only AP classes count towards the weighted GPA. And costs are going to be high so is it something that you are willing to pay?

Probably in at Wake since they’re test optional and really holistic in their approach. Good chance at Emory. WashU is a crapshoot (my son got in ED this year). You might be on their threshold In GPA. If the ACT is 34+ good chances. The ECs are OK, but nothing stellar. If you decide ED for WashU it’s probably 50/50. You will need a higher ACT score for Vandy since they are score driven.

@Hamurtle thank you! I am retaking the ACT soon. How do you think my chances are at Boston College, USC (SoCal), UVA, UNC and Michigan? Congrats to your son! WUSTL is an amazing school

Pretty good chances at BC/USC. What is your potential major? Based on your EC’s I’m thinking political science or business/Econ/finance.

UVA, UNC, and Michigan are going to be tough because of the in-state/OOS factor.

I would consider adding BU and Brandeis as match/target schools to your list. If you want another target school, maybe Tufts as well although they are notorious for rejecting highly qualified candidates. Good luck!

@Hamurtle thank you very much! For safties/ targets/ low matches I have: BC, Pitt (in state), USC, NYU, and I was possibly thinking of BU.
My intended major is actually neuroscience. The governor’s school I went to was a sci/math thing, I have done external research, and volunteered at both a nursing home and hospital. I do see how the EC’s that I listed above portrayed that I would make me seem interested in political science or business/Econ/finance.

Michigan - accept
Boston College - accept
UVA - waitlist
UNC Chapel Hill - waitlist
Brown - waitlist/reject
Northwestern - waitlist/reject
Others? No idea
