I know my standardized test scores are mediocre compared to the average applicants to these universities (around the 20-40 percentile), but can my GPA make up for it? My LORs will be pretty nice, as I'm confident that the two teachers I got to write my letters (human geography and biology) wrote really nice letters. I also have some nice hooks with a whole LOT of ECs and community service. So now that you know all this about me, what do you think? :D

Thank you for your time I greatly appreciate it- WILL CHANCE BACK! :)

I don’t know if I’d consider “Asian” a hook, but I’m a sucker for a Debater.
Your EC and Volunteer Service are really impressive, I think. It will look nice either way, but especially since your major is somewhat related.
I agree that your test scores may hurt you, but I think that, so long as they’re outweighed by an amazing essay and strong demonstrated fit, you’ll be for the most part fine.

Of the list, I’d consider Dartmouth, NYU, Brown, and UPenn definite reaches. You should be fine @ Wash U and @ UF (although I’m pretty sure you know this.) I couldn’t tell you about Emory or Northwestern.

Chance back?

thanks- do you really think Wash U is a match?

From what I know of them, yes. It’s true that your SAT/ACT scores are a bit below their average, but from what I’ve been told (I have a friend who goes there), they look at students holistically. You’re clearly well-rounded, and, like I said before, you’ve shown a very strong interest and you’ve taken the hardest course-load offered by your school.
Don’t get me wrong–your SATs will cost you, but they definitely won’t rule you out. Good essays and recs should definitely help you on that end.

It may be more of a low reach, but I don’t see why any reason why getting in would be impossible.

Your profile is very impressive I would say WUSTL is a high match and with the other Ivys you have a good shot but of course competition is highly cometitive, if you plan on doing sports in college it could always help out. If I were yo I wouldn’t apply to FSU, your in for your safety and UF is a better school.

Reach - brown, penn, darthmouth
mid range - nyu
safety - UF
cant decide whether northwestern is a mid range or a reach for you
dont know about the other :stuck_out_tongue:
chance me back please

thanks a lot guys- what do you guys think about UM, Cornell CALS, and chicago? keep in mind that chicago superscores act

bump- will chance back!

come on- bump!!!

All of the colleges you have mentioned seem to be pretty realistic. But you are right about applying to a safety school. Probably the most popular state school from your state. A couple of things that could hurt you for Emory, Northwestern and Brown is the fact that you do not have a ton of AP classes prior to your senior year because they seem to look at the grades you got in them. But if Wash U is your top choice, you will probably find yourself very happy when they send out their admission letters. But you should definitely take the SAT or ACT again to increase your chances from above average to very good.

thanks- I’m retaking my ACT and doing the SAT subject tests (I bombed last subject tests).

so would you recommend that I apply to fsu? What It think I’ll probably do is base my decision on if I get accepted to UM or not- if I get rejected then I’ll apply to FSU.

bump…

Reach - brown, penn, darthmouth
mid range - nyu
safety - UF
