Looking to get a job and do research over the summer.
My dream school is UC Berkeley which I would be OOS for. Is it even possible for me to get in with my stats?
Additionally, I’m looking at UIUC, UMich, Purdue, GTech, UTexas Austin, and other top engineering schools.
Berkeley is not cheap; can you afford yearly fees of $55K per year? They will be going up to $58K per year.
There is no financial aid for non-residents (no scholarships, grants from California)
UCB is always a tough admit and I would say you are very qualified be definitely not a solid match. If this is school is unaffordable, I really will not matter if it is a Match or not unless you need to have the distinction of saying we were accepted.
I’m also looking at UIUC, UMich, Purdue, GTech, UTexas Austin, and other top engineering schools.
Stat wise, I think Purdue would be a match, but I’m not so sure about the others. Both Purdue and UIUC have more realistic cost ranges for me so I guess I should start thinking about that :).
If I could have an opinion on where I stand on those schools that would be amazing!
You do have a good chance at Purdue. For UMich CoE, ACT 33 is around the admission average of last year with an admission rate of near 20%. In other words, a low reach from OOS.
Most likely MechE @billcsho . I don’t believe I would qualify for financial aid anyway. I also checked their website and they don’t seem to have too much merit aid either…
UIUC- accept
UMich- if oos then yes, if not waitlist/accept
Purdue- accept
GTech- if oos then yes, if not waitlist/accept
UTexas Austin if oos then yes, if not waitlist/reject
UT OOS is probably a waste of an application. GT OOS won’t have merit for your stats even if you get in.I am not sure where you get a lot of merit from?
You want to be clear about the money before applying. While you are a good student, merit as OOS for these great schools is highly competitive even for the great students with better stats.
@Sybylla Yeah I haven’t really thought much about that yet. I have a deal with my parents already set up, which covers a large bit of tuition. My instate option, OSU, will be almost free but obviously isn’t as great as these too schools. Do you have any suggestions as to how to afford these colleges?
