Chance me for top Ivies(first time!)

I think I've been born into some very special circumstances, especially considering that even though I was born in Taiwan, I now can speak fluently 4 (and learning Japanese) langagues because I attended French school since I was little and have had a Spanish tutor since then too. So please, chance me!
Planned Major: Something related to biology, most likely biochemistry
Asian, Male, Middle class family

SAT I:
Crit. Reading-800
Math-800

I'm planning on taking Japanese and I think I will be able to get at least 770 on it. Should i take Chinese? I didn't because so many people get 800's and I'm planning on just saying that I can speak/read/write fluently on the common app. so yes/no?

National Merit Scholarship Finalist
Local Science Fair: 1st place sweepstakes winner, 4th place, all projects on biology
Internship at National Taiwan University: Worked on molecular biology, notably on mosquitoes, what genes determine whether they are bloodsucking or not, and working on an effective mosquito repellent
Internship at Stanford University: Contacted professor by myself, worked in his lab, also molecular biology, as his assistant (basically) along with masters/PhD students
Also started a local program at the public library in 10th grade, bimonthly lectures on science for elementary school kids-middle school kids, now expanded to several libraries, and also been invited to go to an elementary school class and present several times. Each lecture brings in around 30 kids now.
Piano: Certificate of Merit Level 10 (only play for fun now)
That's all my notable extracurriculars.

Letter of Recommendations: AP Biology teacher (excellent), AP Calculus BC teacher (pretty good), Internship Professors (Taiwanese professor should be excellent, pretty good for the Stanford professor)
Essays: I'm going to write about growing up learning several languages/in America, somewhat generic, but I think I do have a fairly touching essay

Now finally for my list of colleges:
Harvard
Princeton
Caltech
MIT
maybe Olin College
Dartmouth
John Hopkings University
Cornell
Davidson college
UCB
Harvey Mudd college

Please chance me! :)

Btw, I don’t attend the French school anymore, since I didn’t have time with all my projects/school

Ok I read your whole post, and I honestly think that you have a 90-95% chance (depending on the colleges that you listed) of getting in to those…so good luck, you’re really gifted!

You never know with Harvard, but yeah you’re definitely getting into the rest. GL!

Holy crap! Are you my long lost twin by any chance?! My parents are Taiwanese, and I can fluently speak French (800 on SAT II, 5 on AP), Spanish (790 on SAT II - oops, 5 on AP), and German (4 on AP) in addition to English (750 SAT II Lit and 5 on both AP English exams) and Chinese (800 on SAT II and 5 on AP… it’d be pretty embarrassing if I didn’t get this). I thought I was fairly unique for knowing all these languages to this degree of fluency, but I didn’t know there was someone else out there with practically identical stats (well, except for the biology research - unfortunately, I never had that kind of opportunity in high school. and the fact that I’m female).

My school list includes schools with similar selectivity rates, so basically, if you don’t get into any of yours, there’s no hope for me either… anyway, best wishes, bonne chance, and buena suerte! 祝你申请大学愉快! :D

what the hell. As long as your essays don’t suck, I would honestly be surprised if you got rejected from ANY of those schools. You have near perfect standardized scores and ridiculously impressive EC’s, so if you get rejected by more than two, I don’t think I’m going to apply to any colleges :)

chance me back, please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1204121-chance-potential-classics-major-please-ill-super-grateful.html

Are you an USABO semifinalist?

Harvard, MIT, Cal Tech and Princeton are reaches for everybody.
You will get into one of them if you are lucky.

Dartmouth: Reach

Cornell, JHU, Harvey Mudd: Solid Chances
Davidson and UCB: In or great chances

Good luck to you!

@calgirl15: and I thought I was unique for knowing those languages haha! Best of wishes to you too
@20more: yea, i’m a usabo semifinalist (nothing for chem tho)
Thanks everybody!!! Any more chances?

Impressive!
USABO might help you a lot.

I’m just gonna tell you what you already know, it’s a crapshoot with Harvard, Princeton, and MIT. Dartmouth is a probably. Everywhere else is extremely likely.

Your languages are impressive as is your internship at Stanford. Personally I like the fact that you’re a fan of TLO =D

I visited Olin.
It was a great school but did not apply.

Do not apply to Olin unless you are absolutely sure of your major (engineering).
Only way to change your major to something other than engineering is transferring to a different college.

USABO semi-finals is not too tough, I’d even put lower than AIME. It’s gonna be hard convincing schools like HYP to accept you. You have the standard decent ECs, but somehow, for an asian, they probably aren’t gonna catch anyone’s attention. non-ivies should be in your range.

It is obvious that you have a chance to get into any top college in the country. Given their low acceptance rates (7%-15%) however, it becomes a crapshoot. The top schools could fill their ranks with superstars many times over, because the top kids all apply to the top 15 schools. Apply to a lot of them, and you will certainly get into 3 or 4.

@dblazer: I know USABO semi finals aren’t too tough, but wouldn’t DI globals and internships count for something? :
Should I lower my school list a little?

"Should I lower my school list a little? "

Hell NOOOO!
Apply to all of them and more. You will get into some top colleges.
You might even get into one of HYPSMC with good essays and some luck.

Harvard-Reach
Princeton-Reach
Caltech-Reach
MIT-Reach
maybe Olin College-Match
Dartmouth-High Match
John Hopkins University- High Match
Cornell- High Match
Davidson college-Match
UCB-Match
Harvey Mudd college-Match

-bumps-
Can anybody chance me? Before, I was thinking of Davidson, UCB, and Harvey Mudd as backups, but should I add more backups or something?

Why not put MIT, Johns Hopkins and Cornell at the very top of your list? You sound like a smart person, but (I’ll take a little heat, I’m sure) you sound uni-dimensional. Steady science diet with a side of language.
Oh yeah, there is history in there, but sounds like you have the quant side down while not really participating in any activities that stretch your comfort zone.
I hope you get into where you want, and lord knows this economy can always use molecular biologists, but colleges may be looking for a little more diversity in who you are.

@berman: well, the colleges I put are simply the list that I have in random order. You’re probably right my pursuits are fiarly one dimensional. However, I do feel that the majority of my activities are about things I’m really passionate about, and I single handedly found/made most of these programs by myself because I wanted to (forget support from parents, they wanted me to become a lawyer). Still, perhaps it may have been better for me to expand my horizons a little bit.

Toflan- your academic record is surpurb! One major factor for getting intonHarvard is your parents being able to pay tuition and possibly being able to donate money to the school. Harvard is not a meritrocacy. a recent groundbreaking research study by tenurednPrinceton faculty demonstrated that if you are lower middle class your chances of getting in are 10 times less than upper middle/upper class kids. So start accumulating some wealth and your chances will go up sky high! Good luck.
