Chance me for top publics (OSS)?? WILL CHANCE BACK ASAP

Hi guys! I'm applying ED1 for Emory University. However, just in case I don't get in, I need some other schools to apply to. Now I already have UGA(in state) set down as a safety school for me, and then some reach schools like Vanderbilt, WashU, Johns Hopkins... Now, I was wondering, is it worth it for me to apply to the elite OOS public universities?? I'm reluctant because I don't think my chances will be good and I feel like the cost will be too high. Can you guys chance me for UNC, UMich, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UVA?? Are any of these colleges able to meet need or offer a decent amount of aid to me?? Thanks!!

I’m sorry, but based on your GPA I don’t know if Berkeley is a viable option. Your EC’s are okay, but not ridiculously great… I think if you brought up that SAT score, that might begin to put you within range for the schools.

With your stats, Berkeley and UCLA are out of your reach. UVA might be, but it’s probably worth an application I suppose. However, UMich and UNC are worth applying to, I’d say. Get that math sat up!

thanks, if anyone wants a chance back, just leave a link

No chance at Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Washington University in St Louis, UNC, UC Berkeley, and UVA. I would not waste your parents’ money applying to those schools. Your class rank is simply far too low. Unless I’m missing something and kids from your high school with around your class rank have been accepted to those schools, you really don’t have a chance. UNC is extremely competitive for out of state applicants, basically like getting into an Ivy league school. Same for UVA; not as competitive as UNC but much more so for OOS applicants.

UMich will be a reach and so will UCLA.

cortana, can you suggest other schools that might be in my range? I know for sure that I’m appling to Emory for ED1 and UGA (in state safety). Now, I’m just looking for other schools to apply to… I’m looking for slight reach/middle reach schools, since I have a good safety, that I will be somewhat affordable for my family.

University of illinois is realistic for you, Georgia tech should be too. Note that you are extremely unlikely to win an merit aid from schools so most, if not all, of your financial aid will be need based.

Waitlisted at UMich

Update: GPA is actually 3.861, I improved SAT to 2120 ( 690CR, 680M, 750W)
