So what do you guys think? What are my chances at:

Yale (I love this school, my #1 choice for sure. I love Yale like some people love their boyfriends..their pets..their bubble gum balls..etc etc :)
Harvard
Stanford
UPenn (Wharton)
Columbia
Northwestern
UC Berkeley
University of Chicago
USC (with a full scholarship?)
Princeton

Excellent SAT and SAT II scores! Your ECs are good too since you’ve achieved on a state/somewhat national level…but there will be a lot of debaters and musicians applying to the same schools. So, it all comes down to your essays and the way you present yourself. I think Northwestern and Chicago would love someone like you. Harvard would like your scores/intelligence. Yale, Stanford, and Princeton are really unpredictable, so write really great essays. At this point, anything can happen.

Also, is there any reason your applying to Wharton and not Penn CAS? It just seems odd that Yale is your top choice - a liberal art school in every sense of the word - but you’re applying to Penn’s business school. I know they like to see interest in business early on, so if that’s a career you’d like to pursue, you should look into internships/jobs.

That is really an outstanding resume. One thing that will hurt you is being Chinese, it’s even worse than being white at this point. Asians are overrepresented at the top schools because they work so hard, and you maybe right about China taking over the world. If your dream school is Yale then you should apply early decision.

Wharton because I was born in China, and moved here at age 5, and I’ve been back a lot of times since then and am absolutely in love with the country  I’m thinking of pursuing a major in International something-or-other, business being one of those options, and Wharton is a great business school, soo…
Thanks for the chance!!! :D

i was born in china too! moved here at 11.
and i wanta major in business as well!
but you have great scores, and stats.
wharton is the hardest business school, ever, no one’ll know if you can get in or not.
but you do have a GOOD chance :)

Yale: mid reach but you definitely have a shot… apply here early and NO WHERE ELSE. my school’s val (who got into harvard and every other school he applied) was deferred because he also applied early to his safety and got in.
Harvard: reach
Stanford: reach
UPenn: low reach
Columbia: low reach
Northwestern: low reach
UC Berkeley: match/in
University of Chicago: in
USC (with a full scholarship?): in
Princeton: mid reach

my goodness! excellent GPA, academics, EC’s, haha your correct in identfying lack of competative awards, but im sure theyll me mildly (sarcasm) content with your epicly long list of world saving activites
sooo just flip the coin, and i hope yale is a heads for you! (i.e your going to get in at least 1/2 or more)
chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735826-mit-stanford-hopkins-chance-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

Yea… your SAT scores are killing me. I can’t stand to look at them… they hurt my eyes. I tink your chacnes are pretty high. Even though you are asian, your SAT scores are pretty much maxed out… so not muc hoyu can do there. I think your EC’s look strong overall. Though it would be nice if you had a bit more awards at higher levels. Essay is key, but if you play your cards right, idon’t see why you wouldn’t get into Yale. Are you gonna apply EA?

Apply Yale ED and i think youre in!! All of your schools are within reach, your stats are unbeatable…just dont be cocky on your essays :)

Your SAT is ridiculous, which is a huge plus. Obviously this means that you will have a better chance at colleges that put a higher emphasis on standardized test scores. Top 5% is about average in *most *of schools you listed here, so normally it would not be a plus or a minus. However, you said that you attend the #1 public school in Utah, which would make you a valedictorian in most other places. This puts you ahead of the curve. Your EC’s are very solid, but in my opinion, you still lack leadership experience. Being the vice president of ping pong club, orchestra, etc is commendable but how much leadership responsibility do you actually have in those? It’s not a weakness, and its about average for the schools you are applying to.

That being said, some of these schools are reaches for everyone, but you have as good a shot as most people. You’ll definitely get into some of them. Even if you somehow got into only one, it’s still a slam dunk. Obviously, the real reach schools are Harvard and Stanford, assuming you apply regular decision. Yale early action seems like a high match to me, but there is still a significant possibility that you won’t get in. Even so, it wont be the end of the world. The other schools you listed are all either matches or low reaches.

Chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736393-not-generic-student-no-personality-chance-me.html</a></p>

ichigoonwall, thank you for that analysis, it was REALLY helpful  much appreciated! and yes I’m planning on applying SCEA/ED to Yale so… fingers crossed
Yeah…leadership…I didnt really realize that it was that important, but hopefully the stuff I do as debate captain/Orchestra president will be enough? Idk, I know it doesn’t really stand out in the Ivy League pool, haha…

Excellent SAT Score as well as SAT II subject tests. Stellar extracirriculars. I’m just simply amazed. =)

Just one question, is it necessary to retake the SAT II? I mean, as far as I know, 750+ is impressive on any resume and at the most strict possible level, 780+ is top tier. Don’t you think it’s kind of pushing it a little? Just my opinion.

Harvard - Reach
Yale - Reach
Stanford - Reach
Upenn - Reach
Columbia - Low Reach
Northwestern - Probably in
UC Berkley - Most likely in
University of Chicago - Most likely in
USC - In, hands down
Princeton - Reach

Please chance me back if you have the time? I would appreciate it.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735950-please-chance-me-upenn-ed.html</a></p>

done  i guess i should put that i chance back in the thread title, huh? oh well :P

I would say your a top level applicant that has as good a shot as anyone to those schools. But what I want to know is how much free time do you have. Seems like you’d be running from activity to activity doing what you do.

Haha well…I’m Asian so my parents don’t really let me party all that much to begin with…and you’re right, I don’t really have that much free time (well except in the summer, now I’m sort of rotting my brains out…)
The thing is, I genuinely enjoy debate/orchestra and a bunch of the other stuff I put on there. Being with my debate team is like being with my extended family, we hang out and stuff at tournaments, so it’s pretty much my social life :P

gah. people like you make me wonder why i’m applying… haha i think you have a superb shot!

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735899-chance-harvard-columbia-brown-uchicago-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

Not much needing to be said, I’m sure other people have said most of what you can glean from my chances.

Yale - low reach
Harvard - crapshoot
Stanford - low reach
UPenn (Wharton) - high match
Columbia - match
Northwestern - match
UC Berkeley - match
University of Chicago - low match
USC (with a full scholarship?) - match
Princeton - reach

picture perfect student
now just explain why you’re not
ivies often just reject students like you because they have so many like you and they don’t a school full of 2400’s

Yale: reach ( it is for everyone regardless of their stats)
Harvard: reach
Stanford: reach
UPenn (Wharton): reachhh
Columbia: mid reach
Northwestern: low reach
UC Berkeley: lowish reach( just cuz ur out of state)
University of Chicago: in/ low reach
