Chance me for top schools, Ivies?

haha whyy do we even bother with chances threads for all of those Ivies/Stanford/etc etc? everyone knows the answer is “reach” no matter what :P

what can i say ur just amazing =) everything about u is perfect, and like many others have said, being asian might be your only porblem because for some reason all of you asian people are amazing =) so for the ivies its just a matter of having essays that will show them you’re unique

Hi fuzzyfirebunny!

Like everybody said, you have absolutely crazy stats (GPA, SAT, course rigor, good ECs). You should adopt Amar’e Stoudemire’s nickname: STAT (if you’re an NBA fan; maybe Yao Ming lol  )!

You have an excellent chance at all of the schools on your list because you haven’t really messed up yet in high school; congrats on that! You should get into at least 1/2 easy if not more (although you Asians are amazing at everything) if you have that amazing essay that makes the adcoms dance at how awesome you are!

BTW, for Wharton, you might want to pick up a good job/internship this summer (maybe next summer, I remember on another thread you saying that were a sophomore). I hear that this is what Wharton wants to see, but your a solid applicant everywhere!

BTW, debate and science olympiad rockssss!!! I do both as well, looking to place in trajectory next year (having your catapult break on the bus ride there sucks)!. I’m not sure if you remember me from earlier threads, but you friended me & I wanted to say ‘hi’ and wish you the best of luck! :)

Your stats are really extraordinary! I think you have a very good chance everywhere except Princeton, Harvard, and Yale, and even those are very likely to accept you if you just show why you aren’t the stereotypical overly well-rounded applicant.

haha thanks everyone, especially to bigdreamer  lol i totally remember friending you and thanks a bunch for the comment! i am a rising senior though, btw :stuck_out_tongue:
good luck to everyone else who is shooting for those schools too. lets collectively cross fingers and hope their admissions rate goes, up, lol

^^Yeah, I really wish the top schools had rising admission rates from having less amazing applicants or accepting more of us, but then they would lose their pedigree in prestige. Oh well, just write killer essays , and once you make it past first semester, you’re in the clear to slack a little! ;)

Best wishes to fuzzyfirebunny and everyone else applying to the top schools! :)

I think you have as good a shot as anyone. Congrats on the TOC Bid, try to rack up two early next year, getting into the TOC’s would be a great award.

I was wondering though, why did you take the AB calc AP instead of the BC one if you took the BC class?

I’d say the main thing to worry about at this point is your essays, since (as an asian who applied this year I’d say) that’s where you have to really set yourself apart from other asians with great scores and grades as well.

Apply EA to Yale! and hopefully you’ll be in New Haven with me next year! Good Luck!

You have all the stuff, not really much more you can do. Just hope for the favor of the gods. USC and U Chicago definitely in.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736117-chance-me-davis-sb.html

Good Scores and GPA and Leadership but so so EC. a few local and state things. You are not geared for Business as your awards do not indicate an aptitude for business. You are suited for Yale(Law) aspect.

50%+ chance for all school except Wharton (no business awards= no acceptance). I mean who the hells goes to Wharton to study Law lol…

wow your stats are amazing! Your ECs really jump out at me as PASSIONATE DEBATER haha There was a girl in my school last year who got into Princeton and Harvard due to her passion for debate as well^^ What are you planning to major in? cuz that makes quite a big difference.

Yale (I love this school, my #1 choice for sure. I love Yale like some people love their boyfriends…their pets…their bubble gum balls…etc etc: I’d say you have a fair chance~ You have amazing stats but Yale acceptances can be unpredictable lol
Harvard: mid-reach
Stanford: low reach if you are majoring in business, otherwise reach.
UPenn (Wharton): Fairly good chance – low reach/high match
Columbia: Low reach
Northwestern: In
UC Berkeley: In
University of Chicago: Probably in
USC (with a full scholarship?): most likely
Princeton: reach

Good luck!

You’ve got everything pretty much down… nice SAT scores, nice extracurriculars. You have a pretty good chance at all of those schools, and you have a decent chance at Yale, especially if you apply early.

thanks again, everyone  just wondering, can someone tell me what kind of an advantage it gives you to apply SCEA to yale, or ED anywhere for that matter? I would go in a heartbeat if accepted, but am worried that I’ll rejected and not even get my shot RD. how much does it improve your chances to apply ED, and is it worth the risk? :stuck_out_tongue:
merci beaucoup in advance :)

hello fuzzy,

I’ve never chanced a student before, but I’m going to give you a little advice, and I do think your chances for Yale are as good as, or better than many. Here’s why: you’re from Utah.

Have you visited New England yet? Try and do this before you write your essays. Then work to figure out why you like Yale, why you (a girl from a low population, clean-as-the-driven-snow state) would fit in at Yale, and what unique perspectives you will bring with you. Yale strives to create a microcosm of the world, and your life experiences are probably quite different from many applicants.

Best wishes-

I say you have a great shot everywhere!! Better than me I think =/… lol. I wish I was good on my standardized tests like you!!

I’ve heard that applying SCEA is great because Yale ususally defers (if not accepted) applicants rather than outright rejecting them, so you might not have to worry about not getting a ‘fair shot.’ ED applicants have soewhat of an advantage because it shows that you only want to go to that school no matter what. Best Wishes! :)

You have good stats and ECs. But so do a lot of Asians. Unfortunately, because of this, admissions will likely be somewhat of a crapshoot, but when all is said and done, you will definitely be going to a top school.

Yale (I love this school, my #1 choice for sure. I love Yale like some people love their boyfriends…their pets…their bubble gum balls…etc etc
Harvard
Stanford
UPenn (Wharton)
Columbia

Princeton

All schools above the line are reaches due to an extreme abundance of highly-qualified Asians. I would expect you to make at least one of these, but be aware that you might not make more than that. Someone I know with a very similar profile applied to all of these and was only accepted by Stanford.

Northwestern - match
UC Berkeley - this might sound strange but I’ll go with reach because you’re OOS. That person I was talking about earlier…she had a perfect GPA and a 2390…REJECTED OOS.
University of Chicago - match
USC (with a full scholarship?) - in with chances at a full scholarship; not sure how that system works, though.

GREAT GPA + SAT scores (but you already know that). I just think you should focus your ECs more, cause they seem to be all over the place! It may look good, but it also may show the colleges that you don’t stick to what you really like & youre just trying to look good for college.

Yale-reach
Harvard- reach
Stanford -reach
UPenn (Wharton)-low reach
Columbia-reach
Northwestern-match
UC Berkeley-match
University of Chicago-low reach
USC -match
Princeton -reach

Harvard- somewhat of a reach
Stanford- somewhat of a reach
UPenn (Wharton)- low reach
Columbia- in
Northwestern-in
UC Berkeley- in
University of Chicago- in
USC (with a full scholarship?)- SO in… like, beyond in haha
Princeton - low reach
Yale - if you apply ED, then I think you’re in!

honestly, i think that if anybody has a shot at these schools, it’s you! your SAT is AMAZING, and the only thing holding me back from saying you’re in to these schools is their general unpredicability. GOOD LUCK!

@riverrunner: haha touche on the whole Utah thing  I actually have only been here for 3 years, before that I lived for 4 years in PA, 3 years in Wisconsin, a year in Indiana, and 2 years in Texas. Soo…I’ve definitely been all around :stuck_out_tongue:
Does anyone know how much the Utah geographical thing will help? I never thought it’d be that much of a big deal :P

Well…hmm I don’t know if the living in UT will have any effect, because for me living in a bigger state [in the biggest city] definitely makes it harder to win that many awards.
[Unless you’re this uber genius kid who just graduated from my school haha]. I’m just going to compare your resume with students/friends I know that do go to the ivys.

And wow, I only had the option of taking 1 AP my sophomore year. I’m kind of jealous about that.

As for ivys…it might be a slight reach because you have a lot of awards, but they seem mostly state level. It seems more difficult to receive said awards if you lived in NYC, NY [just pointing this out lol, not trying to sound…condescending or anything] But if you become a semifinalist that’s good. Most of the kids I know were either finalists or winners, though. As for Wharton, I agree with everyone else. Nothing about your application particularly screams business?

I think you’re in for Berkley, USC, Columbia, Norhwestern, and probably U of Chicago/Stanford. Hope that helps. Do you know any people who attend the unis you want to attend?
