1. Worked for online sports firm, one of my articles was syndicated by Yahoo and rose to #2 worldwide in the rankings (best EC and common app essay)
2. Worked for online marketing firm
3. Tutored in the SAT on an innovative pricing system
4. Kept a student undergoing chemo treatment up to date with geometry while out of school.

Recs
hmm...one amazing and one above average...counselor will be average due to school size

Essays/Interviews
common app essay will be top top top. The rest will be way above average, but nothing like the common app one. I'm great with interviews

Chances for:
Stanford/Harvard/Yale/Princeton/Northwestern (legacy)/Brown/Penn (legacy)/Rice/USC
Cal, UCSD - in state

Likely major: maybe maybe math
not a minority

I think the first reply takes the longest, so I’ll spare you that trouble. bump

You definitely have the GPA/SAT. It is going to come down to the essay. So you have done soccer/xcountry/softball. For HYPS and the ivies, if you are going to apply as Math major, then your ECs don’t tie that together. Any Math competitions? Your work experience seems to tie you to more of a business type major? I guess without knowing details of all that and how you are going present yourself, it is hard to chance. But your gpa/Sat score definitely puts your foot at the door. Great chances for the UCs, others are a reach for anyone.

If I intended to major in something else, would that help me? I just thought econ/stats were seen as “easy” majors.

Any other input/chances? 130 views and only one response.

This is the last time i bump. Ah well.

HYPS: Nobody knows

NW, Rice: Decent chances
USC: Very good chances

Brown ED: Decent Chances
Penn ED: Decent Chances

Brown RD: Reach (acceptance rate (below) 10%)
Penn RD: Reach (acceptance rate (below) 10%)

Thanks for the input

Wow… I really can… um… Wow… Thats pretty impressive… like really really impressive. Self studying eh? Thats shows you’re a good student.

You look incredibly well qualified! With HPYS, you never know, but you should be in at Northwestern, Rice, USC! It depends on where you apply early (if you decide to), but Brown and Penn are low reaches if you don’t! Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I think Stanford EA. How about for Cal and UCSD?

I saw this on another post and I thought it relevant. My school sends about 5 to UCLA, 5 to Cal, 5 to USC each year. 10 for top out of state last year (Rice and up). This accounts for the top 5% in my class. However, 2 years ago only had 3 out of state top schools. Last year there were 2 HYPS but none two years ago.
