Chance me for top schools?

I’m a junior in high school and I’m wondering whether my application is “impressive” enough to even bother applying to HYPS, etc.

Intended Major: Computer Science or Economics

STATS

  • Sex: Female
  • Ethnicity/Race: Asian
  • Type of School: public
  • GPA: Unweighted 4.0, Weighted 4.6ish
  • ACT Score: 35C (but 33 on math, is this a big problem?)
  • APs: AP Comp Sci and AP Stats (5s) and APUSH, AP Calc, AP Lang, and AP Physics this year
  • Senior Year Courseload: AP Gov, AP Eng Lit, AP Physics 2, AP Chem, AP Econ, AP Comp Sci Principles
  • Awards/Honors: National Center for Women & Information Technology Affiliate Winner, National Honor Society, that’s it lol

ECs

  • Speech & Debate: Captain since sophomore year, 2 time state/national qualifier and state semifinalist. Helped the team get more members and I’m technically one of the founders.
  • Stanford Scholar Initiative: Helped create short online lectures on topics such as machine learning and human
computer interaction based on previously written research papers. Appointed as a directly responsible individual (DRI) to manage team progress. IDK where this fits in, I kind of just do this online and I work with professors and grad students.
  • Member of the communications team for a pretty legit nonprofit organization to encourage more girls to pursue STEM. Did some work, but I didn’t really feel that involved in this one.
  • Varsity Tennis: since freshman year
  • Video Production Club: we just film and produce stuff for the school
  • Technology Student Association
  • Member of NHS

ECs / Internships / Summer Activities

  • Ran and organized a summer camp to teach middle school girls how to code. We focused on teaching and encouraging more girls to go into STEM. This was a big time commitment and I’ll definitely be emphasizing this in my applications.
  • This summer I’ll be volunteering at the local art museum and maybe interning at another local art museum. (i got rejected from everything else I applied to ayye) Hopefully it fits in with my whole “teaching kids” thing that I have going.
  • Volunteered at the library

Essays/LOR

  • One of them will be from my debate coach and it should be pretty good. The other I’m getting from my math teacher who seems to like me.
  • I really hope my essays are good

So I’m kind of worried that I don’t have enough extracurriculars and that I don’t have a “spike.” Do you think I have a shot at schools like CMU, UChicago, MIT, etc? Because I don’t really want to apply to a bunch of schools if I have no chance, lol. Thankss!!!

I think you are competitive for these school but they are reaches for everyone. Pick one or two that you think would fit you best and then work on finding good match and safety schools.

Your extracurriculars are amazing!! You’re really well-rounded and you have good grades and test scores.

If you don’t mind me asking, could I pm you asking more about this? I really want to do something like this in my community, but I’m not sure where to start or how to do it. I’d really appreciate your help.

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. A 33 on the math section is fine. Write good essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

@needtosucceed27 sure! I found a partner and money through NCWIT’s AspireIT program
