Member of County Student Leadership Team- It is a big deal, pretty prestigious.. We meet with the area superintendents, prominent businessmen, professional speakers, etc...

Three Summers of Leadership Traning with Student Leadership University- Have been to Orlando, Washington D.C., London, Paris, Normandy, Oxford for training. Had the opportunity to hear lectures from prominent senators, congressmen, civil activists, members from the house of lords.. VERY AWESOME experiences with this organization!!

Attended Foundation for Teaching Economics - Economics for Leaders Summer at Emory
- Incredible experience, will probably use in essay.

I really have a passion for leadership, and by that I do not mean taking positions to throw on my app, I mean learning about leadership (through lectures, stories, team building), learning about leaders, and teaching/sharing leadership skills to others.

Also, I am wondering, is it possible to double major at duke between Trinity and Sanford??

Thanks for the help, any advice is greatly appreciated!
I will chance back if you provide link to your post!! thanks

For the very top schools the SAT score may be a little low. The rest looks very good. With a passionate essay and good recommendations I think you’d have a good chance of getting in to a great school :)

Sorry, but I am curious about something. How can the best public school in Georgia have 882 kids in a year? I am not doubting you, but I have never heard of any US public school having that many kids in a class.

Londondad, Idk what there is to doubt, I live in a suburb of Atlanta, and go to a public school, that when considering academics, test scores, and athletics, extra-curricular offerings is the best overall public high school in the state. 882 was the number in my class at the beginning of junior year, so it may have dropped or risen since, I wont know until august… Would it please you for me to change “best” to “highly respected, competitive, successful in all areas”

chance back!!!

okay so you’re NOT getting any full rides that you mentioned: sorry to break it to you :(

additionally you will NOT be getting into HYP etc… sorry :(

also, some county leadership program is not a big deal, also, it is evident that you PAID for all of your “awesome experiences,” programs like TASP, Governor’s School etc… are ones that you don’t have to pay for and are therefore a lot more prestigious than a “student leadership university” thing or an “emory leaders” thing that costs 3000 dollars a pop, only shows that your parents are loaded.

however, the good news of this whole thing is that you have a pretty good shot at getting into Duke if you apply Early Decision, the same goes for Emory and Penn b/c the ED acceptance rate at all of them is above 30% Choose your favorite out of those 3, apply ED to the one you choose, and you’ve got a pretty good shot, otherwise you’re probably looking at UGA Honors College… (my friend went to westminster in Atlanta, best private school in south, their class even had 7 kids go to harvard, and she had similar stats to you, and she is going to UGA next year)

Thanks for the advice, I am okay with UGA honors, but I know how admissions can be, and you never know… I am definitely going to bring up my scores some, and I figure it cant hurt to apply to a few high reaches. I know these colleges are a reach, I don’t have a huge ego or anything. The county leadership team IS actually a deal considering the quality of the students and the number of which go on to attend prestigious schools (In fact, the administrator of this his spoken with an adcom from HYP (she wouldnt tell us which) and the membership in the program is highly regarded and earmarked… I guess because the students who have gone on to their institution were well respected. The county is recognized nationwide for its administration and test scores. It is not some “down south” rural county. The EFL program was actually free (when you disregard the $250 registration fee) and required an app process where only 35 students were chosen. The graduating class at my school this year had 10 people going on to ivy league schools and 2 Uchigago, 3 MIT, 2 Stanford, 3 Duke (off the top of my head). Oh, and I never claimed Student Leadership University to be prestigious, it was just an incredible experience in a field I am passionate about. My parents are not loaded. And I know you are right about the scholarships, except maybe FF… If I bring up my scores to 2250ish.

i assure you, I’m very familiar with the area in which you live (my grandparents live in north fulton county in duluth, you probably live either in fulton, gwinnett, or dekalb) and I know it’s not some down south county, in fact it’s full of yankees… didn’t mean to be too harsh, sorry if i offended you

o and please chance back

your honors and ECS are very helpful…and it is good that you have specific areas to major in. But your SAT score is only “fit” for those top colleges you choose…Princeton only has a acceptance rate of 7% and most of the people in the top universities have SATS higher than 2250.

Your resume, both academically and personally, is not up to par with Jefferson or Robertson standards. With that said, admission to the top schools on your list will also be difficult. Improve test scores and ace senior year grades; and maybe consider an early application option. Good luck!

Academics: WEAK. GPA/ Class Rank weak. SATs/SAT IIs/ACT weak.

ECs: weak (for top schools). randomness…

Princeton, Stanford, Duke and Penn are no doubt reaches mainly b/c of weak academics which ECs don’t make up for. Same w/ g-town and the like.
