My situation is a little different because I will graduate high school at 18 with a Direct Transfer Agreement Associates of Art and all of my nursing prerequisites done. The high school diploma won't be from my high school; rather, it will be from the CC and will have the code "GA" which means "graduated via associate's degree". This is because I won't be meeting the graduation requirements of WA public schools. I will have a high school diploma but won't walk with my class. Has anyone else done this and will it haunt me later on? I can't imagine it being much different from home schooling but I can't be too sure. I'm also not sure if I would have a better chance applying as a freshman or a transfer student.

Also if you could give me a general idea of strengths/weaknesses.

You don’t have a choice as to whether you apply as a freshman or a transfer student. Which one you apply as depends on your situation.

If you are currently in high school and enrolled in Running Start in Washington State, apply as a freshman.
If you will continue college course work after you graduate from high school, apply as a transfer student.

Running start students at my high school still walked with the class even though they were graduating with their associates… are you sure you can’t walk with them? And when I took running start they made sure I took classes that met all my graduation requirements as well… If what you are saying is true that is a little unfortunate that they changed the program so much. I still did cheer leading and other programs at my high school and did not regret doing running start. But I did not do it the full two years. If you are able to graduate with your transfer degree, FOR FREE mind you, at the age of 18, you have a wonderful advantage on your peers. UW is very competitive, but they do reserve 30% of spots for CC transfers. All in all I think you would have a better chance if you keep your GPA as high as possible. Don’t be afraid to join clubs at the CC, it will only feel like a home school environment if you make it feel that way.

I could walk with them but I would be unable to finish my nursing prerequisites. If I walk with the high school I have to adhere to their graduation requirements, while if I obtain my degree from the CC I simply have to earn an associates degree. It basically means I don’t have to do the testing (although I already did) and I don’t have to present a cumulative project. I still have to take the same amount of core classes (4 credits eng, 3 credits math, etc) but they don’t have to be the same ones the high school requires.
