Hi!
I intend to transfer to Colby, Bates, Reed, Bucknell, Cornell, Standford, Grinnell next year. Can you please give me some suggestion? I am an intl student from a community college in Oakland, so I guess I don't have much chance. But anyway, I'll try my best and hope that luck will smile on me! Thank you guys! :)

SAT:2350
SATII: MATHII 780 CHEM:770
GPA so far:4.0
Courses i'm taking: cal 2, English 1B ( literature. I love this class!), Human Nutrition. Next semester, I am going to take 18 units.
Work exp: tutoring: 20h/week
ECA: AMATYC Math club ( I'm currently the highest scorer at school only :( ); tutoring an old lady math; Community Service + Modern Dance in high school
Essay: I'm writing from my heart; I hope it's good to other people.
Recs: okie; not superb, not very intimate, but I guess they only show my participation in class.
Prospective Fileds of Study: Biochem+ political science
Contribution: 10k/year. Is that too low for transferring?

i am also in the same condition, but i am now not at the community college.
u need to take challenging classes and have good grades in them. even more important is your leadership, how outgoing you are?
good luck.
keep working to make the application very strong.

@transferrequired:These are among the most challenging courses offered at a community college; i don’t know what to choose more…
@#nineteen: I guess they take like 20 out of 200 applicants… That’s fair enough for the keen transfer pool. Anyway, I guess the contribution might bring us down, if you apply for FA…

i don’t know much about those colleges, but your SATs and GPA are exceptional. Colleges accept students from CC all the time, so you shouldn’t worry much about that. And may i ask, why didn’t you enroll into a 4 year institution after high school? I’m sure you would have been excepted into top universities easily :)

@dragonneedspank: I think I will declare my majors in chemistry + political science. I’m still thinking about economics and English, as I love these areas too, but I guess I should focus on some certain areas to transfer. I have to be sure that I may go to some four-year institution after graduation.

@jTate: I missed the deadline for colleges when I was in Vietnam. I intended to do a gap year, but my parents thought I should not; so I have to go to a cc.

@hmom5: thank you for your advice. Can you suggest me some schools that offer such merit-based scholarships for intl students? Btw, I apply for next year, and I hope the economy will improve then…
