Chance me for transfer?

Hello, everyone! Currently I attend Elon University (a nationally recognized university), but I am having to transfer next semester for financial and family reasons. I really feel like University of Delaware would be the PERFECT school for me to transfer to, but I am unsure of my chances. This will be my first time applying to UDel, and I am currently a first-semester freshman.

3.9 Unweighted

COLLEGE:

Standing: Freshman

Attending: Elon University

Major: Psychology and English, minor in Music. I entered as a music major, though, which is why my current course load has a lot of music courses.

Current GPA: 4.0 at midterm. I still have a 4.0, but of course the colleges I applied to will not be considering my final grades at this time.

Courses:
Intro to Sociology
Global Experience (Freshman Seminar Class--required by Elon)
Small Group Communications
Contemporary Health Issues
Marching Band
Flute Ensemble
Individual Flute Instruction

Extra-curricular/Volunteer Involvements:
Elon Volunteers! Lunch Buddies Mentor, 2011-present
Elon Volunteers! Adopt-a-Grandparent, 2011-present
Fire of the Carolinas Marching Band, 2011-present
Elon University Pep Band, 2011-present
Tau Beta Sigma (Honorary Band Society), 2011-present
Elon University Flute Ensemble, 2011-present

Other details: I am a Maryland resident, which I suppose ups the competition. :(
- I received credit for Environmental Science, English Language, English Lit, Psychology, and US Government, which means I entered college with 20 credits. I will end this semester with 37 credits at Elon.

I really appreciate you taking the time to chance me. I am extremely anxious and counting the days until I hear back from UDel (which could be as soon as this week or as far away as January).

But really, thank you!
Oh, and I apologize for any grammatical errors within the text of my post. I cracked my tooth and am on Vicodin, so as you can imagine, I am "out of it." It took me like 5 minutes to even remember what classes I am taking this semester. haha

You do realize the OOS at UD is $37,932 compared to Elon’s $36,971? Generally speaking, transfer students are not eligible for UD merit based money.

[UD Admissions: Financial Your Degree](<a href=“Undergraduate Admissions | University of Delaware”>Financing Your Degree | University of Delaware)

I think you’ll get in, but I don’t see how it will benefit you financially.

I do realize this, but UD is closer to the hospital I have to go to visit my family member every other weekend, and transportation is extremely expensive to keep going back and forth. It’s not really a matter of tuition.

But thanks, I appreciate it. :)

usernameofmegan - Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I can’t see why you wouldn’t get in. If you’re concerned, I’d let them know you have a 4.0 at midterms, also, I don’t think it would hurt to make them aware of your family situation, and to convey all the reasons you believe that UD would be a perfect fit. I think the fact that you’ve been able to achieve a 4.0 gpa @ midterms while dealing with a sick family member, along with all the traveling you’ve had to do, is an accomplishment they will definitely take into consideration. Either way, I think your good.

By the way, my son is currently a freshman and is very happy with his decision to attend. He loves the people in his dorm, the people in his major, his RA, the TA’s, and 4/5th of his professors are, as he puts it, “boss”. UD also has a well equipped Student Counseling Center to help kids deal with any kind of anxiety issues, ranging from academic, to personal relationships and family problems, etc.

Best wishes.

Thank you for your insight…and for your thoughts and prayers. (:

My D was admitted to both Elon and UD, chose UD and even got a small amount of merit aid. Your H.S. stats are somewhat better than hers, so although I don’t know much about transfer criteria and numbers, I would think based on hs stats, your admission would be quite likely.

You should be aware that UD has a number of area and a language requirements. You might place out of Spanish and some of the others with your HS work, but UD’s criteria may not be the same as Elon’s. The good news is that, like Elon, UD has a Winter Session and has a wide variety of academic courses in required areas available during the Winter Session.
