Hi! First of all I just wanted to say that this is an awesome website and you guys are really helpful. I wish I had found this website when I was in high school.

Right now I am attending a California Community College. Although I have always known that I wanted to go to a university, it has taken until this semester for me to finally get REALLY motivated.

So, before I get to my stats/grades, a few pieces of relevant info: I am going to be applying for Fall 2012. I am most likely going for a Linguistics major (if not, something very similar) and I have taken many language classes. I'm currently in my 5th semester at the CC, and will probably be taking a 6th and 7th (heh heh... as I said I wasn't entirely motivated before).

I see that most people include high school grades (I thought these didn't matter with transferring, but I guess they do? how much?) so I'll start with that.

High School:
GPA - Somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0
SAT - Total score 1970, without writing 1310
ACT - 29
AP Scholar (or whichever means 3 tests passed)
Some community service in senior year
Varsity swim team
Involved in two class-related short student exchange programs, one to Germany, one to Japan

College:
Fulfilling IGETC requirements
GPA after this semester - 3.44
Expected GPA at transfer - 3.6-3.7
B's and C's here and there but expecting to show major improvement (straight A's) in remaining semesters
Held a job throughout college education, doing school full time and work part time.
Extreme family issues, responsibilities, and hardship (good for essays).
I am going to get an AA in Humanities and Communications.

Well, I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Here are the universities I'd like you to chance me for.

UCLA
USC
UC Berkeley
UC Santa Barbara
Stanford
NYU
Princeton
Harvard

I recognize that the latter names on the list are extreme longshots probably. But if you could humor me by giving a possibility (in percent would be very much appreciated) that would be awesome!

Also, if anyone can make suggestions about what I can do to increase my chances of admission, especially to the more difficult schools on my list, that'd be great. Suggestions of other schools that I could try for would be great too, but keep in mind that I am trying for the most reputability possible.

Thanks very much for any and all responses, you guys rock!
