Chance me for Tufts as a reach school?

Hi, I will be applying to Tufts' school of engineering for RD.

Keep in mind that I am well aware that this is a reach school. I just want to know how I stand. Thanks!

GPA: 3.67 UW
Top 5% of class.
Took 7 APs and the most challenging schedule offered by my school (one of three students taking the most difficult schedule, if that matters.)

ACT: 31 comp; 34 eng; 31 math; 31 rding; 29 sci

SAT 1930 ss (I know I did bad on it--but I did do better on the ACT, of course.)

SAT2s: 680 M2; 660 Phys.

*Retook SAT2s in December and expect low 700s on both.

No hooks that I know of.

Slightly above average HS in suburb.

Good ECs and good essays.

Sorry to tell you but it doesn’t look good. You never know of course so do try. Your scores and grades don’t look great especially for engineering. Your science on ACT and SaT 2 are way too low. And honestly if science and math are not your best subjects why would you want to go for engineering. I think it’s the most difficult major. Speaking from experience.

If you don’t submit your SAT you’ll have a much better chance. Your ACT is still is a bit lower than avg, but that is fine. Unlike the poster before me, I think you have a reasonable chance, so it’s definitely worth applying!

Good luck!!!

Reachable… do a good YouTube video and it should help you.

I feel like we can totally relate! I was just accepted to Tufts’ engineering school for EDI, and I was totally nervous. My super scored ACT was a 32, and people were still telling me that the outcome didn’t seem good. If I were you, I’d only submit the ACT. Your SAT IIs and your SAT are both a little below what they look for (I think), but your ACT is right in their range. Honestly, at a school like Tufts, stats are only one part. If your extracurriculars are strong and your essays really reflect who you are and what you’re passionate about, I think you’ve got a shot. What ECs do you have exactly? Are they geared towards engineering at all? (Awful pun, sorry. It was actually unintentional!) If they are, I think you’re good to go. The admissions people understand that not everyone is able to build a robot during high school or take all three AP sciences. You’ve just gotta show them that you’re more than your numbers and that you’re doing all that you can! Your GPA is very good, and your classes seem challenging. Best of luck to you. If you have any questions, please let me know! I’d be more than happy to talk with you!

Thanks for the info/criticisms. Btw…I’m 99.9% sure that Tufts only considers the applicant’s highest scores, so the SAT shouldn’t be an issue, right?
