Chance me for TUFTS, HARVARD, + NORTHEASTERN...

So yea, would you guys please chance me?
I'm thinking of tufts, Harvard (just going to try!), and northeastern! (plus more)

GPA: 3.6 -3.7 ish...yea..I know :/
SAT: 2220 (maybe 2300 in october?)
My school does not do ranking anymore.

I took 3 AP's in junior year (ap calc, ap bio, and ap lit) the rest are HN.
I will take 3 more AP's next year as a senior (Ap stats, ap chem, and Ap psychology - the rest are hnrs). I was also planning to take a harvard extension course after school on biology or something (haven't decided yet).

E.C's:
Vice president of Asian club (haha)
Science olympiad club (active member)
Girl's Golf (3 years) and track (1 year)
Member of national honor society club
Piano at Longy school of Music for 5 years and private piano for 6 years (11 yrs total).
Taught beginner level piano during freshman and sophomore year
8th place in Forestry for science Olympiad (states...sadly)
Gold Key winner for the Scholastic art competition (states...sadly)
Painting achievement award
Com. service (220 hrs): Went to Vietnam for 3 weeks to teach English and keep the kids company and also got some of my hours doing school stuff.

Teacher recs: I have 3 from 2 AP (they said they would write nice things haha), one from my HN history (she loves me) and the fourth from my guidance (she likes me too).

College essay: I think I have that one down.. >_< hahaha

My cousin just made it to Harvard, and after talking to him, who had “average” stats per say, the essays are really what get you in, in addition to your EC’s.

For the essay, just remember to highlight one or two MAIN things that you’re passionate about, and as for the EC’s, be sure to put only those things on the application packet that youre PASSIONATE about… my cousin had a bunch of ECs but only put those pertaining to politics on his App to highlight his passions. Its really important to DEFINE yourself…

Best of luck dude!

Going off the above poster, a 80 point jump in your SATs will not make or break you, your ECs and essays will. Also, it seems, just from a glance, that your ECs are really varied and there isn’t a common thread or passion behind them. That’s something to think about before you write your essays/etc., because you should seem like you are doing things YOU like, not just doing things to do them. Maybe I’m being a little harsh.
I’d say:
Northeastern - low match
Tufts - high match, low reach
Harvard - high reach

I would disagree with the person above about Northeastern and say high match. Depending on the rigor of your school not just your classes, a 3.7 (weighted?) isn’t too bad. Northeastern actually uses a different scale to calculate GPA (5 for Ap’s, 4.5 for honors); therefore, it may actually be higher than you think. The thing about universities now is that they review your application holistically. Having a decent GPA and high test scores looks great (that’s where I am), but having extra curriculars that you have stuck by and hold leadership positions as well as your essays are also very important.

I agree with poulsonl.
Also, I would only retake the SAT if you have one section score less than 700.
Good luck!

@AROTCDanK- 3.7 is my gpa unweighted :slight_smile:
@poulsonl- For my E.C’s I mostly focused on art, science, and piano. Is that too varied?

But thanks guys! :)
