Chance me for Tufts University

I'm applying to Tufts University regular decision. I'm a legacy. I want to see my chances for getting in.

SATs
Total: 2210
Math: 680
Reading: 740
Writing: 790

ACTs
33, with my highest score in math and my lowest in writing

SAT 2s
Biology: 740
Lit: 730

APs
Bio: 5
Lit: 5

GPA (not including senior year):
Weighted: 3.82
Unweighted: 3.75

Senior Year:
Very rigorous course schedule. Getting all As and A-s except for a B in AP French.

Extracurriculars:
Model UN, publicity editor of literary magazine, writes for school newspaper, does school shows, works at my Hebrew school, was a camp counselor this summer, national merit scholar commended

I think my essays (the common app one and the supplemental one) were pretty solid.

Also I think my recommendations were good.

Opinions? Please?

You’re a solid candidate.
Your test scores are solid, though not overwhelming. Your ECs are just okay.
I don’t think being legacy will make much of a difference RD.
Good luck.

Although the OP’s stats seem okay I would caution you to be careful about giving your opinion. In reading another thread, it seems as if Tufts (as well as so many other colleges) are inundated with great applications.

IMO the OP’s GPA seems pretty low for Tufts, not knowing the senior year grades. However, I would let the adcom office handle the applications since they know what they are looking for. I would hate for the OP to get false hope from a parent…we just never know what they are looking for! I hope I’m not sounding harsh…it’s just difficult to know what on each application the adcom will be drawn to the most.

To the OP: Good luck! :)

First, the OP ASKED for opinions.
Second, it’s ironic that while admonishing me for giving my opinion (which, as noted, was sought), you give YOUR opinion (“IMO the OP’s GPA seems pretty low…”).
Third, I think this OP and every other OP seeking opinions on this site knows that the ONLY opinion that counts is that of the AdCom, so we are all in agreement that we’ll “let the adcom office handle the applications.”
Fourth, I said "solid candidate. " I actually offered no opinion on the odds of admission. “Solid” doesn’t mean I think s/he is likely (as in better than 50/50) to get in; it means the OP is a competitive applicant. That’s all I said, and I’ll stand by that. You are correct that Tufts is inundated with strong applications, and that’s why I only said “solid.” There are lots of comparably solid applicants, and Tufts obviously cannot admit them all. In fact, I would expect no more than 1/3 of them to be admitted. Much depends on essays, recs and ECs. Obviously I offered (and could not offer) no opinion as to the first two, and I noted that the third (ECs) were underwhelming.

More like 1/4 being admitted. At the end of the day, essays are what matter. That distinguishes you from other people.

Like I said in my post…hope I’m not sounding too harsh…maybe you can follow that same advice!
Actually, I was giving my opinion to YOU about the Op’s GPA, not to the OP.

Thanks for responding back to me in a calm and intelligent manner! :)

buzzers-
One-fourth (give or take a couple of percentage points) is the overall admit rate.
When an application comes in, the initial reader gives it a rating of 1 through 7, with 1 being the best. As you would expect, a very high percentage of 1s and 2s are admitted, while very few of 5s, 6s and 7s are admitted. There are tons of 3s and 4s. But for the 680 Math SAT score, the OP looks like s/he would be a 3, which I consider to be a “solid” or competitive applicant (although a 4 is possible). Something like 33-37% of 3s are admitted, hence my statement. For 4s, the number falls to the low to mid 20% range.

^The OP didn’t give the breakdown for the ACT scores, but math was highest there so the SAT may be an aberration. I agree that the OP is a solid candidate, but we simply don’t have enough information to know what the verdict will be. On paper my son’s EC looked no better, but he was able to parlay them into some decent essays.

oh gosh, stop with the bickering :x at the end, nobody wins. LOL

anyhow, my opinion, i personally think that legacy helps a lot. and you definitely have solid stats, so i think you’re in (:
