Chance me for U of A, strange circumstances

I graduated class of 2012 with a 2.2 GPA, SAT 1310. No EC's. But the year after high school I did volunteer at various soup kitchens, help elderly women with gardening and house chores, and help my uncle install brand new HVAC systems to local businesses' free of charge/at our expense. I included all of this in my Essay that I attached to my application.

I'm applying for UofA Spring semester 2014, so I'm applying a bit earlier and I think that'll help my chances. What do you guys think? I can upload my essay if anyone wants to view it.

This may be a stupid question, but which U of A do you mean?

sorry, University of Arizona

I’d say that this would probably be a reach. Your SAT score is below their Middle 50 by about 100 points, and you have a very low GPA. It seems like your job experience is excellent, however. I would therefore advise you to look into schools that do not look at tests, as you’d have a better shot there.

what schools would you suggest?

There are actually many options for you.

Like I said, there are some test optional schools. I don’t necessarily know of any in your area, but here is a link to some:

[SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)

You could also go to a community college, then transfer to U of A or some other school. You could also just apply to U of A, and see what happens. It is definitely possible that you get in. If they look closely at essays, and yours is great, then that’s a positive.
