No real excuses for my performance... Was slacking up until junior year, so I do have an upward trend. My essays are said to be very good. I'm an asian male of florida residency, and I'm looking to do either computer science or computer engineering. Money isn't really an issue.

Class Rank: top 50% out of 1090
Unweighed GPA (4.0 scale): 3.1
Academic Core GPA: 3.40
Weighted GPA: 4.2
APs: AP Euro, AP Comp Sci-A, AP US History, AP English Lang
Currently taking: AP Psych, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Stats

SAT: 1820, gonna try for at least 2000

Extracurriculars:
Engineering club, model un, key club, treasurer for an entrepreneur club at my school.

Other Schools I'm looking at (hopefully you guys can help narrow it down):
UW-M
VT
WPI
OSU
UCF
UDel

^ It is hard to comment on wGPA without knowing the weighing mechanism. A large gap between w and uw GPA may suggest a big bonus for advanced courses and a higher max scale.

The breakdown is:
math: 640
reading: 570
writing: 610

I’m not entirely sure on my schools weighted gpa system, but I believe it is out of a 6.0 scale where honors are +1 and AP is +2 (so a B in honors is = to an A in a regular coarse in the weighted gpa)

I’ve also been looking at UMBC, would this be a good match?

Unfortunately it looks like Michigan is going to be a pretty major reach with your current stats. Of course, that’s not to say that you shouldn’t apply if you really want to go there.

LOL. Now you see why I asked which U of M OP is referring to. He is not applying UMich but UMN.
Anyway, your GPA is still very low even for UMN. With CR+M at 1210, you probably should look at something lower and perhaps some non-flagship in state public schools.
