Thanks everyone

???

Chance chance chance

Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

You’ve got a great chance.
Do you require aid?

You are in.

If only you were a native Texan…

Chances are decent, but OoS students typically have a tough time getting into UT Austin, considering most of the spots are taken by in-state top 10% students.

Yeah, I think I’d be in with the top 10% rule =/ oh well. Being asian will probably hurt. Yeah I’ll probably need aid

So are there a ton out of state applicants? Is the competition intense?

^The rule in Texas is that every graduating senior who is in the top 8% (formerly 10%) of his/her class gets automatic admission to all public schools in the state, which includes UT Austin. And because UT Austin is the best in-state college, everybody applies there. In the past, in-state students comprised as much as 90% of the freshman class at UT, meaning it was very difficult for OoS students to get in. However, with the recent change to the rule (now top 8%), this percentage is expected to fall to about the 70-75% range. So it will be easier this year for OoS students like yourself to get accepted. The only reason I’m concerned for you is that your stats are about average for an in-state student. I can’t say much about the competition among OoS applicants, but I figure you have a pretty good chance.

I certainly hope everything works out, UT is a great school and Austin is undoubtedly the best college town in the country :)

Thanks! Yeah, I’d say Austin, Boston, and NYC are the best college towns…therefore, almost all the schools I’m applying to are in those places haha

I think I’m going to take SAT again so hopefully I’ll have a better than average score

The thing with the top 8% rule is that most people get into the university, but not into their program (especially business), since it’s super competitive. They created the School of Undergraduate Studies for all who didn’t make it in.

But yeah, getting in out-of-state is difficult.

How tough exactly is the school of undergrad studies for out of state?

It is not the best in state college in Texas, it is just the best public school. Also huge party school draws alot of people.

I would say Rice University is the best school in Texas.

Yeah, but I don’t think I have a shot at rice…and u texas is one of the best public schools in the country

Just echoing what others have said, applying to UT out-of-state is hard etc. I remember hearing that UT likes to see your subject SATs but take that with a grain of salt as I’m not completely sure. However, if that’s the case, you could perhaps try to raise your Math II. If you don’t want to go that route, then definitely retake your SAT if you said the first time was without studying. Commit yourself to preparing and you can hopefully break 2000.

Yeah I’m going to try to take the SAT twice in the fall

Incorrect. Rice, as a matter of fact, sucks.
