hey man, is this your first time taking the SAT? if so, take it again and try to bump up your score a little bit - ESPECIALLY for University of Southern California. I’m also genuinely considering that universityfor myself and people say that you need a solid 1800 or above. Considering everything else, i really believe you can make it.

thank you! and that was my second time taking the SATs but I am taking them again, my dream schools are seattle university and u wash, I would mainly want to go to USC because it’s in LA (and it is a nice school) but I heard that u wash doesn’t even want transcripts when you apply which I thought was crazy!

Are you a Washington State resident? If not, I’d say that UW is probably a reach for you. I’m not sure how much less selective it is for in-state students. My son was waitlisted, as an out-of-state applicant, with an unweighted GPA similar to yours, but a weighted GPA of over 4.0 (he did the full IB program, and all classes his junior and senior years were either IB or AP, other than school’s required religion class, phys. ed, and newspaper elective). He had very strong leadership ECs and community service. His test scores were 2060/31.

I’m a resident of connecticut, and wow, if he got wait listed with those stats…

@johnnybjr111 - we were pretty surprised when he was waitlisted, because he had been accepted at more selective colleges. It could have been that he hadn’t demonstrated interest enough (unlikely for such a huge university), or (son’s theory) that out-of-state applications soared this past year due to their liberalized marijuana laws. He did not apply to their more selective STEM programs, either.

ok @woogzmama UWash is my top choice right now, so hopefully my interest will help my cause, but yeah I was going to say that your sons stats were pretty good

USC is a very high reach. Your test score and GPA are well below the 25% percentile. I would not expect to be accepted unless you have had serious issues throughout HS, URM status.
