What are my chances for admission to Cornell Engineering as a Computer Science major and Berkeley College of Letters and Science for Computer Science (note that Berkeley L&S is far less competitive than Engineering, and does not admit by major)

-UW GPA: 3.54, UC GPA: 3.92, W GPA: 4.14 (Low UW but grades show an upward trend and I'm still top 9% at my school)
-SAT Reasoning: 2260 (730 Math, 730 Reading, 800 Writing w/ 12 on essay)
-SAT II: 790 Math II, 700 U.S. History
-Taken 13 AP and 6 Honors courses throughout high school (all 4's and 5's on AP Tests taken so far)
-I am a California resident and qualify for the UC ELC

-EC's:
1.Intern at a software company, I hold a quality assurance position and I basically test android applications for functionality and user convenience. 10 hours a week for 16 weeks. (11, 12)
2.Community service at church, I maintain facilities every Sunday afternoon. 2 hours a week every week of the year, give or take 2 weeks. (9, 10, 11, 12)
3.Travel basketball, I got cut from HS team but I still love playing. About two hours spent at practice every night for the team, year-long commitment. (9, 10, 11)
4. Exhibition designer at a local cultural center, latest project was a modern and vandalized rendition of Thomas Jefferson's desk that provided a subversive commentary on his character and idiosyncrasies. 10 hours a week for 12 weeks. (11)
5. Tutoring kids at school in various subjects, including English, Trig, Calc, Physics, ect. (11, 12)

-Letters of rec & essays well-written

-I'm pretty confident in all parts of my application EXCEPT my unsightly GPA. I was a mediocre student in 9th and 10th grade, and I'm super scaried and super worried that it will ruin my chances. Any feedback would be appreciated, and I will chance back if you provide me with a link.

You have a chance at Berkeley especially since your UC GPA is so high They will likely ignore Freshman year. Your ECs aren’t too strong, though… GREAT Sat score it keeps you alive. UCB is a match, but Cornell a reach.

Well you’re right about your GPA being lower than average for those schools, but luckily you tested high. I dont know if that’s enough to offset your GPA but it’s a bonus. Your ECs arent very extraordinary, except for the exhibition designer one, that is extremely cool, and depending on how you described it on your App, should hold some good weight.

SAT score is acceptable.

SAT II score is fine.

GPA is acceptable. Upward trend elevates rating to good perhaps?

Californian residents get a boost to acceptance likelihood at UC schools.

ECs are fine:

Detailed ECs stand out even if they are sub-par to ECs like “Cancer Research at blahblahblah” Try to continue this trend. Make your ECs as unique as possible. Don’t aim for huge ECs for the sake of resume-building. Admissions know that those with “cancer research at blahblahblah” is not predictive of success at college because a lot of people do it not out of themselves but because they want to get in a university. Do things you enjoy/or are meaningful to you.

E.g. “Thomas Jefferson’s desk” is much better than “a famous person’s desk”

ECs are varied.

Your main focus will be the essays. You don’t have to do big things to show intellectual acuteness.
