Berkeley: Match (if OOS and paying full-freight)/High match (if in-state and/or asking for financial aid)

You’re definitely on the right track, and the SAT score can only improve. That said, you have a year until you can be justifiably pressed about all of this—you’re obviously an intelligent and motivated person and just need to continue on the trajectory you’re on. Think about other schools you may be interested in and do research in programs they offer so when the time comes to apply, you’ll be knowledgable and focused.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525521-chance-me-upenn-columbia-barnard-etc-ill-chance-back.html

I’m in-state! How will this affect me? D:

I think you’re good! The violin definitely helps too!

The AP classes will help boost your GPA, that and SAT scores are probably the most important factors for Berkley admissions. Be warned, taking 5 APs is no easy task, there will be a lot of work during your junior year. Try to maintain stress levels. Trust me, this can be difficult in the hardest and arguably most important year of your high school career. Be certain to keep your grades up with such a rigorous course load. Also, you need to improve your SAT score. I have no doubt that you can do so, considering it was already high in your freshman year. If you can raise it to 1500+ CR/M and especially making sure that math score is exemplary (ideally above 750), that would help would cement your chances. Your ECs are fine, continue with your clubs and pursue leadership opportunities over the next year. Spearhead initiatives that reach beyond your school and interact with your community. Being in-state will not hurt your chances, it just won’t help them. Additionally, the UC system is not need blind. This means that if you need significant financial aid, it may hamper your application. Not significantly, but it may be a factor considering how cash strapped the UC system is right now. If you are not applying for financial aid, that may help. If you need that aid however, do apply because as I said it’s not a significantly large factor, and taking out huge loans is never a good idea. This is a while away, but you can start thinking about those essays now. The UC prompts haven’t changed in a decade. Chances are, they won’t be changing any time soon. Start brainstorming which experiences may be good to write about. I wouldn’t advise starting those essays yet, your writing skills will undoubtably improve in the next year. But do start gathering ideas. In short, if you can improve your SAT, you’re a high match for Berkley.

Match! Good luck junior year, very crucial- work hard! :)

A wide variety of ECs and a solid SAT score. NICE!
