Hey guys! Was wondering if you could chance me. Would mean the world.
Major: Computer Science
Overall GPA (after update) - 3.71
Junior transfer.
TAG - No
90+ units - Done by Spring.
Prerequisites - Done by Spring
IGETC - Done
Major GPA - 2.8 before I applied, but after the ‘A’ I am getting this winter it will be over a 3.0. Hope that won’t affect my chances…
Essays - I believe they are pretty dang good to be honest. I write a lot on my free time.
EC - programming club, math club, technology conference in LA, internship shadowing computer engineers at tech company, scouts troop leader all of high school, worked at Trader Joe’s.
I had health issues last year causing my major GPA to not be over a 3.0 BEFORE I applied, unfortunately. Got an F in Calc 2 last year… retook it and got an A in the fall though! which brought my overall GPA to a good 3.71. I did mention my health issues in the additional comments of the application.
I’m just hoping the major GPA 3.0 or higher requirement they have INCLUDES the major courses in the Winter and Spring quarters before admission too, because only then can mine be 3.0+.
Sorry for the length of this post. I don’t post much and I’m truly desperate for some clarification and peace of mind. Love you guys.
Hmm, this is a tough case. It’s hard to say for certain how your situation will be viewed. While your retaken Calc 2 grade will most likely arrive in time for the admissions review, they might still be sticklers about the major GPA requirement since they won’t be able to see your winter/spring quarter grades until after decisions are released. (Take it from a current student - UCI can be extremely bureaucratic at times!) Your overall GPA is still very strong though, so just in case things don’t work out this year, there’s nothing stopping you from trying again next year!
My retaken Calc 2 has already arrived! I submitted it in the fall quarter. I went from spring quarter with a C+, 2 As and an F to Fall quarter with all A+'s including the retake Calculus class. Yeah I’m just not sure what they mean, if they include major GPA for all courses or just for the ones up until fall. The issue is that I took a programming course and got an A in the fall as well and that actually brought my major GPA to a 3.10, but it was an introduction to programming course, and they said an intro course doesn’t meet the requirements so I didn’t include it in the calculation @ARandomPerson1
No problem - glad I could help! I do have one suggestion for you - in case your application is denied, I would strongly urge you to submit an appeal with your new grades from winter. Since your overall GPA is fantastic, I really can’t imagine that you’d have any weaknesses elsewhere in your application. Let me know how things turn out!
