Chance Me for UC Irvine! :-)

Hi, I’m currently a junior and was wondering what my chances are for UC Irvine – so far.

school: public, california
cumulative GPA (w): 3.9
cumulative GPA (uw): 3.8
ACT: 34 (going to retake)
AP Biology: 4
Korean SAT II: 800 (probably not going to send)
…also planning on taking my SAT Subject Tests for chemistry and US history in June (not 100% sure yet).

more about my GPA (if it helps):
freshman year- took all the honors classes offered (biology, english, geometry; not weighted). got all A’s, except one C+ in math for both semesters. this dropped my GPA to a 3.6 (w/uw).
sophomore year- took all the honors classes offered again, except math (world history, english) and along AP Biology. got all A’s, except one B- in science for both semesters. making my GPA 4.0 (w) and 3.8 (uw).
junior year- currently taking 2 APs (apush & aplang). first semester I got all A’s, making my GPA 4.3 (w) and 4.0 (uw).

extracurriculars:

  • class council (3 years)
  • Korean culture club (3 years)
  • tennis (1 year)
  • cross country (1 year)
  • track & field (2 years)
  • Humane Society Club (club founded this year [not by me])
…that’s it. I know, I regret not being active enough. :frowning:

As for my major, I still have no idea. I’m leaning towards nursing, but I really am not sure yet! Any suggestions based off of all of this would be great if possible :).

I know UC Irvine is bit of a stretch for me, so if you have any recommendations for schools you think are fit for me please let me know! I appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance!

UC’s only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation and most will cap their weighting on 8 semesters of UC approved Honors, AP/IB or DE courses taken in 10-11th grades which is your UÇ capped weighted GPA.

Your ACT score is very competitive.

UCI Nursing school stats:
Fall 2017 freshman applicants: 2,540

Fall 2017 freshman admissions: 88 (3.5% admitted)
Average UC GPA: 4.25 GPA
Average total SAT score: 2040
Average total SAT score (new version): 1354

If you continue doing well, you should be competitive for many schools in California including Nursing schools.

For Nursing schools in California: UCLA, SDSU, CSU Fullerton, University of San Francisco are all direct admit.

Also if you are not set on Nursing, then any of the UC’s, Cal Poly SLO, Santa Clara, Occidental, University of San Diego, the Claremont Colleges to name a few. If you are looking for good merit aid/financial aid, then in-state schools are your best bet including these private schools.

Best of luck and continue working hard.
