Hi, I go to SMC currently, and am planning to transfer to a UC as a junior. My major is sociology. I will be applying this fall, with a GPA of 2.87. I will have completed all my major pre-req courses and IGETC courses by next spring. Can you give me a percentage of my chances of getting into UCSD, UCI, and UCSB? Thanks.

how do feel about the city of Riverside?

you need an overall 3.0 gpa to be even considered as a uc transfer.

UCR - UCM - UCSC - UCI (poss.). Since sociology is an easier major usally the GPAs are pretty high.

How come there’s so much misinformation on the transfer forum?

* you need an overall 3.0 gpa to be even considered as a uc transfer. *

No you don’t, the minimum GPA is 2.4 (2.8 for nonresidents). Also, wasn’t UCIs TAG in Fall 2009 a 2.8 GPA for the College of Humanities? That means the OP would have a 100% shot assuming he met the TAG requirements.

Absolutely right. In fact, I have a friend who signed a TAG agreement with UCI for Fall2009 with a 2.7 GPA (psychology major). but can anyone give me some advise on winter admissions for 2010 at UCR as a psychology major? what are the chances of one getting accepted with like a 2.5 or 2.6?

I hope you already applied, RS20, because the applications were due July 21st for winter 2010.

yeah ive applied already, im trying to get some honest opinions here so i kind of know what to expect

^Responding to your private message, you can run a StatFinder query to figure out the average GPA of transfers for that field:

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)

I’m at work now otherwise I’d go through the steps myself :p

no problem, thanks for the link.

Ur screwed, don’t even try. If you have a 2.8 at a CC then ur best bet is a calstate, cuz that’s a bigger CC for you to fail in.

Thanks for your encouraging words, and no Im not screwed becuase CC wasn’t hard for me. The reason I have such a low gpa is because I got a lot C’s my first year of college. I changed my major the second year and got couple more c’s. However, I finished up off strong, and im sure even you know that it becomes harder to raise your gpa once you approach 50-60 units (unless you take more classes and get 4.0). Also, I never retook two D’s from my previous major that I never retook.

Sorry sorry, my cousin posted with my account. Umm, I wouldn’t say you’re screwed, but you’re GPA will not wow UC admissions unless you have a proper excuse for why you messed up in those classes. Just because the classes “weren’t in your major”, does not suffice as a proper argument in why you did so poorly. I hope that helps.

maybe retake the Ds anyways? Retake at least one this fall. It will boost your gpa. Try to get AT LEAST a 3.0. And revel is right. Have a good reason. Then take a deep breath and accept the possibility of Riverside, and DO apply to some cal states just in case. Good luck.
