Do I have a chance at any UC or California state School?
Also, any suggestions on schools that I could get into, doesn’t have to be in California!
Thanks!

I am also the VP of my Spanish Honor Society, I have had a job for two years, I am in multiple school bands, I have participated in a foreign exchange, and 40+ hours of community service

Hello, sorry for the paragraph, It is just that you are basically me one year ago  . First, I want to say that it is nearly impossible for one to predict someone’s chances at a school. For example, I was striving for the same schools as you last year and ended up getting into every single UC (and USC, which offered me twice the financial aid than any of the UC’s). I chose to attend USC (yes, over UCLA and Cal). I had an 1890 on the SAT. Definitely apply to the schools you have listed, and also a CSU such as San Diego State because the CSU apps literally take five minutes and just in case Riverside hates you haha. Apply to a few reach schools, such as USC…but DO NOT over apply. My friend applied to all the ivies and did not spend enough time on his UC app…he was rejected from all the UC’s he applied to, except for his wailist to Santa Cruz. So, I was able to get into my reach schools because I took time on their applications, used my resources (like teachers) for help with the applications, and had many drafts of each essay. LOL. Also, it increases your chances of getting in if you apply to the college of Letters and Science at a school (over, say, college of engineering). Good luck. You’ll go far regardless of which college you go to.

Great advice above…

I’d add just 2 things

  • first, be sure you can afford OOS tuition. CA awards virtually no aid to OOS students so, you'll pay $55k/yr for a UC and $35k/yr for a CSU.
  • second, add a few CA privates. You are much more likely to receive aid. Look into USD, LMU and perhaps Santa Clara.

Good luck.

What major are you applying to. I’d say in general your matches would be Santa Cruz, Riverside, and Merced since the priority goes to California residents. You should definitely try for SJSU as well as SDSU. UCD and UCI would be high matches since they care way more about GPA rather than SAT score. For example, the average GPA in Irvine is 4.15 while the average SAT score is only 1940. UCSD, UCLA and UCB would be high reaches for you and if your applying for engineering, near impossible. Sorry for saying this but just look at UCLA’s stats.

@spamuser I am most likely majoring in Spanish, but I will most likely pair it with business
