Chance me for UCB! (I have cookies)

Hiya, would you care to chance me for UCB? I want to major in either EECS or Biology (Micro/Molecular/Bioeng). Should I apply L&S or CoE? I'm also looking at Caltech, CMU, UCLA, MIT and Stanford (Hail Marys). I will be a rising senior.

Academics 'n Stuff
UW: 4.0 / W: ~4.26 (Freshman:4.0/Sophomore: 4.33/Junior: 4.66)
Class Rank: 1/~530
SAT: 2010 (retaking Oct, shooting for 2150+)
790 Biology M/800 Physics/750 Math II <--- should I retake this in November?
ACT: 34 (33R/34M/36E/34S)
APs: World Hist (3), Environmental Science (Test Only-4), Biology (5), Lang (5), US History (5), Physics B (5), Calc BC (5)
Race: Chinese
One of the better public schools in Hawaii (we're STEM heavy). Rec letters are coming from teachers I'm close with (robotics/calc/lang).

**Senior Year Course Load<a href="previous%20years%20are%20%5Burl=http://pastebin.com/qMF2Kagm%5Dhere%5B/url%5D.">/b</a>
AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, AP Lit, AP CompSci, Robotics (new class), A+ C/D & My Calc BC teacher will be teaching me Calc 3/4 (doesn't count for credit, pretty much a self-study+awesome teacher :D)

Extracurriculars
• FIRST Robotics (10-12) / Project Manager this year
/I freaking love robotics spew gibberish -- I hopped around looking for interests throughout high school and this hit me real hard, mostly because it goes beyond the technical stuff--there's a whole business/financing side to it (costs 18k/year to run)/
• Science Club (10-12) /President this year
• Lunch Buddies (10-12) /President this year
/Another club I really like, we hang out with the school's special education kids every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch/
• Math Club (9-12)
• Mock Trial (9-11)
• NHS (10-12)

I'm afraid that my skipping around will look bad, especially abruptly ending mock trial (our lawyer quit due to some messy things) and newswriting.

• I'm interning at our college's drone tech lab this summer
• Volunteer at a Hospice since summer of 2013 (100+ hours)
• Volunteer instructor at a STEM camp for 4th-6th graders our robotics club hosts (I coordinated two of them)
• Tutor students at local elementary & middle school

Awards 'n Stuff
• National History Day State Finalist [6th Place in Website for National Competition + Special Award]
• Science Olympiad State Competition
2013: State Champs (Genetics—1st Place, Water Quality—1st Place)
     2014: 2nd Place @ States (Genetics—2nd Place, Anatomy—2nd Place, Disease Detectives—3rd Place)
• 2014 State Science Bowl 2nd Place
• Harvard Book Award
• Hawaii Journalism Award (Best Print Newspaper & Best Photography)

I know my SAT is barely cutting it, if at all (esp. for CoE). Interesting facts are that I "immigrated" to America (parents are first gen, I was born in America, but I moved to China when I was <1 y/o and lived there until I was 5/6) and that I'm neurotic when it comes to formatting. Essays will probably be from immigration experience, family issues that have been going on since second grade, hospice experience, and robotics. I also like potatoes.

Thanks! :^)

Match/high match

With your ACT score and all your ECs and awards, Berkeley would be a high match.

However, I strongly suggest that you don’t spend money and time retaking the SAT and Math II. Your ACT is good enough to be competetive, you really don’t need to retake any SATs. Besides, Berkeley considers your UC gpa way more than standardized test scores.

@pumpkinpatch35‌ I’m concerned about Math II because of the curve – a 750 is 33% worse than the nation (something like that) and I’m applying as an engineering major. I’ve been prowling the acceptance forums and have seen people with perfect scores get rejected from the College of Engineering Q_Q It’s really scary.

But of course acceptance rates are inherently low (RNJesus please).

(shameless bumping)

Yeah I agree with @noocie‌ Your ACT score is totally fine. I think you should retake Math 2 instead of the SAT. But anyway, you seem to have a good chance. I’m also applying to EECS Berkeley but honestly its SUPER competitive so can’t really say how much of a chance you and me have. Chance me back please!

@student03 It’s probably silly but I feel like colleges are more biased towards the SAT E___E

College apps are too scary haha. Especially when the top tiers become crapshoots :’)

IDK, I’ve heard a lot of different things about SAT/ACT that I’m not really sure what to believe. If you feel safer, then yeah by all means, take the SAT, but IDK if it’ll help a lot.

@student03‌ Yeah, I think I’m going to retake SAT in Oct. and retake the Math 2 SAT in Nov.

Or maybe reverse…hmmm
