Chance me for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UIUC, GaTech, Cornell, UMich Ann Arbor, Northwestern, CMU.

-Demographics: Male, Indian, studying an Indian curriculum (ISC).
-Intended major(s): Mechanical Engineering
-Colleges: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UIUC, GaTech, Cornell, UMich Ann Arbor, Northwestern, CMU
-Academics:

  1. SAT: first attempt, 2000; second attempt, 1980; Superscore: 2040. (670/610 Writing, 700/700 Math, 630/670 Writing)
  2. ACT: 34
  3. Class Rank: Top 2.
  4. Marks: 11th grade: Three trimester average for math is around 94; Chemistry Physics and Economics around 90; English around 85. All of this is out of 100.
  5. SAT II: 800 in both Physics and Math.
-Awards: IInd in Math and Chem in 11th grade. Medals for rock climbing and cooking.
    -Extracurriculars:
  6. Trekked over a 100 kilometers over 9 days in the Himalayas.
  7. Did over 50 hours of Muay Thai
  8. Attended three Model United Nations. One of them was organized by Harvard University students.
  9. Cycling and basketball coupled to over 500 hours a year.
  10. Social services back in ninth grade.
  11. Summer program held at the University of Cambridge. Studied basic Engineering for two weeks; I was taught by an Imperial college student currently doing his PhD in chemical engineering.

I know my Extras aren’t that great but I can’t recollect a few. Also my curriculum has a ton of portion (including a fuck ton of calculus and geometry and probability and binomial theorem and so much more).

-Questions/Comments: When I mean we have a large syllabus, it’s freaking crazy (in case you haven’t heard of the syllabus). Each of our textbooks are 1000s of pages and we have extra school on schooldays and Saturdays. Further my marks do have an upward trend, and I hope my essays are alright. When I showed a couple of my friends they really liked it.

You seem like you have a solid profile but the problems is a) ethnicity + curriculum (not that I expect you to do anything about it haha - just saying it will be hard) b) SATI score

Forget about your SAT score, it is way lower than your ACT. Also, calculate your cumulative uwGPA in 4.0 scale. This is very critical particularly for UMich. CoE at UMich and McCormick at NU are both very competitive. Your ACT is within the mid 50 while your GPA may be below average.

@Random404 (A) Does ethnicity really play a part? I have several Indian friends who’ve gone to colleges like this…
Also the curriculum involves college level material in Math, Physics and Chemistry, don’t see why that’s a detriment. B) But my ACT is higher so will it matter?

@billcsho Yeah I know but I’ve sent it out anyway haha. The thing is Indian syllabuses (syllabi?) don’t have a cumulative unweighted GPA. My overall percentage is 25% of the first and second trimester examinations + 50% of the third trimester for the top four subjects which makes it around 91%. According to some site on the internet that’s in the A range I think (so 4.0?). Not sure because my system is entirely different to the American one. An ACT of 34 pushes me into the 75th percentile for UMich and UIUC, I checked.

@hateitwhenbdbdsj I have Indian friends too who have gone to such schools. But it’s very competitive applying as an international anyway

For UIUC, the mid 50 varies with major. Not sure about ME, but the overall mid 50 for engineering was 31-34 in the last few years. For UMich, the mid 50 was 31-34 in the a couple years prior to last year. The mid 50 for last year was not announced, but the offical median was 33. It is expected to be around 31-35. From the EA admission so far, a lot of admitted students got 35-36.
As for GPA calculation, it is by subject, not overall average. If you any subject below 90% or A, your recalculated GPA would not be 4.0.

Definitely do not submit your SAT Score! Your ACT is so high it would look bizarre to submit it.
