Chance me for UChicago/Georgetown/Harvard etc and I will chance back if you want.

First of all, I need to explain myself before I tell you any of my stats. For the past 3 years of my life I have struggled with a mystery illness that has kind of messed up my life. I am now a senior in high school and will be taking a year off to apply to colleges. Also, I was homeschooled for the second half of my junior year and that is why my GPA is low. I was forced to take regular classes. I still struggle a lot with my autoimmune symptoms, and as a result don’t look like the average college student. Now with that onto my stats.

GPA (unweighted/weighted): 4.87/5.25 (highest at my school is around 5.5)
Class Rank: we don’t have class ranks but have quartiles. I’m in the top quartile.
-ACT: 29 (28 E, 28 M, 35 R, 24 S)(I am taking it again because when I took it my symptoms were acting up pretty bad.)
-AP Human Geography (4), AP World History, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Government, AP English Literature, AP US History, AP American Language
-Teacher Recs: both I believe were pretty outstanding. I know one of my teachers talked about the fact that I had to teach myself in the class and how I demonstrate a lot of courage and perseverance that she hasn’t seen in many kids to get through my classes while sick. My other teacher talked about how far advanced my mindset was compared to a lot of the students he has taught. He was one of my favorite teachers and he gave me an amazing rec.
-Counselor rec: unlike most kids I know my counselor really well, and she knows me really well. So, her rec was pretty amazing too. I didn’t read it but she said she talked a lot about my maturity and the qualities that set me apart from every other high school kid.
-Additional rec: I got an additional rec from the tutor that was my home bound tutor when I was really sick. She gave me the best rec she’s ever given someone. She used to be a principal and has a phd in literature and education from UPenn.
-I am a very creative and different person so I expect my essays to be pretty good.

Hooks: I’ve had a lot of struggles with my health in high school and I’ve overcome a lot of adversity. I don’t want to get into a lot of medical details but it is very hard to deal with severe medical problems and still do well in school.

I want to apply to UChicago, Georgetown, Harvard, Colombia University, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, American, and NYU.
I will chance anyone back who leave a link to their thread!

You seem like a solid applicant, but your ACT/GPA is on the lower side for the schools you indicated.
Just wondering, would you really be able to attend one of these schools? It sounds like your health problems are really serious

@marshmallowpop‌ yeah, I have an autoimmune disease that is under control right now… The biggest problems for me were when we didn’t know what I had. Now that it’s named my doctor said I’m okay to go away to school. Thanks for responding :).

@marshmallowpop I don’t know if my GPA was clear but the first GPA is out of 5 so… 4.87/5 unweighted. Then the next one is weighted and it’s 5.25 and the highest GPA at my school is 5.5.

Although some of your stats are low, colleges are really understanding about circumstances such as yours. Be sure to tell them the problem and problems you faced, it may seem like youre giving too much information, but the more they know, the better they can decide

I feel like that you have all the components to attend any of these schools however like everyone else said your test scores are holding you back. Shoot for a 33-34 on the ACT and you will be beyond good to go for Georgetown. However Harvard and UChicago are gambles and anything can happen.

Chance me back please? We have the same ACT composite score! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1743092-nyu-and-georiga-tech-will-chance-back.html#latest

Solid chances at NYU and American

First off, I’m going to assume that you improve your ACT composite to 33-34 and write good essays that mention your struggles with an autoimmune disorder. I don’t know how safe these assumptions are, but there’s little point in this exercise if I don’t make them. Without doing both of the above, I don’t think any of these schools are realistic targets except for American and NYU. So, assuming you do raise your score and write good essays:

UChicago, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are all very selective schools. They’re never matches for anyone, and each of those colleges rejects 5000-10000 applicants a year who would do very well there, and another 10,000 who are at least qualified.
The U of C is a reach, the other three are high reaches.

Columbia University and Dartmouth are low reaches.
Georgetown is a high match.
American and NYU are matches.
