China physics competition (Beijing regional) (in 10th grade) second award

NASA/NSS Space Settlement Design Competition top 2% second prize team captain

-no AMC because the China YPT was near to the AMC 12 test day and I did not take the test to prepare for CYPT

-Volunteer: as a member of a online education group I wrote course materials for the “teachers” in the group(who are my schoolmate) to teach young middle school students in poor areas in China (4 provinces, 12 schools); also took part in a field trip recently to do some field investigations of the area we are “teaching”. Planning to write a sociology report for many interesting phenomena we had seen, which we believe were neglected by many similar volunteer group right now. And we decide to publish it, with the help of Renmin Univ and local government.

-I converted one of my experiment design in IYPT into a proposal, which had a possibility to be brought up to space and conducted in China’s new space station in the future. It is currently under examination. (This is also a competition for high school students to encourage their zeal in space held by China Space Academy, and I was in the third-round of it)

I plan to ED II (ED 2) UChicago

I think you are very competitive. The rest of your application will be what gets you over the threshold. Make your UChicago essay and your recommendations show examples of how you+UChicago make the world a better place.

thank you very much! I was always very concerned over the fact that I do not have AMC and my research were not published (IYPT just took so much time). Thank you for your advice~~

Did you participate in IYPT 2018?

yes

So are you accepted to UChicago College?

not at all, i just don’t know what had happened to my application and ended up in UT Austin Dean’s Scholar…thinking of transferring now

UT Austin is a great school. Just embrace it and thrive in it. A lot of international students finish their undergrad degrees in state flagships and then end up doing master or PhD in elite schools.

International students usually have a much tougher time to get admitted in T20 schools in US. And it is not surprising your application is somehow incomplete because your teachers and guidance counselor might inadvertently forget to send in all the necessary documents. That sucks but that is life.

Thank you very much! Actually I think my essays are written very badly, so my results might not be that surprising. I would definitely work hard at Austin!~
