Nationally ranked in JETS/TEAMS competition and captain for it in 9th/10th grade (and presumably 11th)
Science Olympiad team member; we qualified for the national competition last year and probably will this year
Cross country runner-received varsity letter this year and the team qualified for state
Varsity debater, received "Outstanding Novice Award" in 9th grade and went to state all 3 years(2 in policy, 2 in Lincoln Douglas
Varsity Academic Superbowl all 3 years; got 3rd in state in Math/Interdisciplinary and 4th in science last year; competition still ongoing now
Project X-10th/11th grade
Volunteer in program called "Teen Court" in which juries of teens decide the fate of troubled kids
Will probably do IU Honors Foreign Language program in Chile this summer
Personal interests:
-Economics; enjoy reading studies on the Internet, especially regarding policies
-Politics/statistics. I like doing analyses for upcoming Senate/congressional elections using excel
-Computer programming: enjoy doing Code Academy and took online course on it; will take AP Computer Science next year

Also, I know these are low, but I plan to retake. I got 780 SAT Math II and 730 SAT Physics

Stanford and UChicago are reaches (but reachable). You’re in at the rest I think.

These probably don’t matter, but there are a couple things I also forgot to add:
-National Merit Finalist [most likely, got 227 on PSAT this year]
-Ethnicity/Gender: white male
-“All State Academic Award” for cross country
-Was team captain on academic superbowl for all 3 squads last year(and all 3 made state)

Why are you retaking a 780 on Math Level II? That’s really good. I got that on my first try and I don’t plan to retake it because it’s a waste of my time. Any score of 750+ is good.

Plus, I’m aiming for Stanford as well.

^I was more referring to the 730 on Physics, but a 780 is kind of low, percentile-wise, for Math II. I was also tired when I took the 2 tests and I know I could’ve done better.

Why would you retake them? I wouldn’t. I don’t know why you all think scores are everything, and that they have to be perfect. You’ve already shown your abilities. Don’t strive for perfection, because it isn’t becoming on a college app…

OK. Never mind about the SAT IIs. Does anyone else want to give me my chances?

Any other thoughts?

What’s Project X?

^Community service organization…

University of Chicago - Low reach
Stanford - Reach
Rest are matches.

Purdue would be a low match. You may get some merit aid, however, Trustees and Presidential Scholarships are very competitive. There are students with the same stat not getting either this year.

^How about IU? I know they eliminated automatic scholarships based on GPA/test scores recently; do you have any idea how that will play out?

UPDATE: This year, I qualified along with my team for national Science Olympiad again. I personally received 3 medals, a 1st place, 2nd place, and 4th place and the team ranked 1st overall. I don’t know if this affects anything though.
