Chance me for UCI?! CompSci major

Hello CC'ers,

I just recently transferred to Chapman University from Cypress Community College this fall as a business administration major. Over the time here, I've realized that I want to pursue an education in Computer Science over business. The computer science program here is not quite that spectacular and for much cheaper, I could be getting a much stronger compsci education at UCI. At Chapman, they consider me a freshman because I have 28 semester units. Once I am above 30 units then I am a sophomore.

I spent a full year and a summer semester at Cypress before Transferring

Desired Major: Computer Science

Stats:
3.2 unweighted high school gpa
4.0 College gpa
Academic merit scholarship awarded to me here at Chapman for 10k per year
Was board member three consecutive terms at Cypress Community College
Currently in Chapman's Entrepreneur club
Started my own t-shirt business. Broke even then retired it and sold my assets.
Freelance SEO work. Worked on a site that now has 22,000 visitors per month and was started in April of this year.
President's Role a couple semesters in High School
Currently working on a website with my brother

I am completing PreCalculus now and plan on taking Single Variable Calculus next semester. Also, I plan on taking Intro To Computer Programming and Visual Programming next Spring.

Thanks for your help and any advice you give,
JDS

to the top

any help would be greatly appreciated…

It might happen…your GPA is very good. The UCs give priority to CCC students so that might put you at a slight disadvantage. Make sure you do lots of pre-reqs. They are here:

[Transfer Admission, Selection and Preparation](<a href=“Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI”>Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI)

Good luck.

RE: Prereqs,

That is my biggest concern. Since I’m switching majors, I won’t have a couple of the pre-reqs done. How much do you think this will effect my application?

anyone else out there?

You need at least 60 UC-Transferable units to be considered for admission to UCI. As soon as you have all 60 units, then you’re gona get in. Your GPA is excellent! Keep up the great work.

Also, could you please Private message me, I am working on a t-shirt business, maybe you could give me a few pointers…can I have just basic contact info. Thanks so Much!

@UCLAProspect I sent you a pm but not sure if it went thru or something…

Anyways, why do you say you need to have 60 units to be considered for admission? It says on collegeboard.org that they accept second-semester freshman all the way to senior level applicants. Also as I filled out the early part of my application, I checked the box of ‘sophomore level transfer’ and it still allowed me to select UCI while some other schools (Berkeley, San Diego) were blocked out.

From the UCI Admissions website

I wouldn’t recommend following collegeboard for transfer information since it’s predominantly geared towards high school prospects. Follow their admission requirements that they post on the UCI Website that oceanpartier posted above. Even since they do allow sophomore transfers in your major ([University of California - Irvine](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/check-majors/irvine/index.html)) you would be given lower priority. To add on since you haven’t had too many prerequisites done, it seems even more of a long shot. Your GPA is great if you can maintain it through your prerequisites. My advice would be take the extra year at CCC, get those pre reqs down and apply in 2013 with extremely good chance of acceptance.

Will applying this year lower my chance of getting in next year?
