Chance me for UCLA and Berkeley PLEASE!

What up fellas hahah aight so im a senior and my top two schools are berkeley and ucla just cuz they are in-state, cheaper than many other schools, academia is rigorous and prestigous.

here are my stats!!! :D

UC GPA weighted: 4.5 for junior and sophomore year combined

UC GPA unweighted: 3.916666666666

SAT 1: 2150

SAT 2 math 2c: 760

SAT 2 U.S. history: 770

ap scores: 5 in environmental science, 4 in u.s. history, and 5 in world history.

extracirriculars: don't worry baby i got these covered nawwmeaaaan!????? :D

also i was one of the top 10% to be considered for ELC and unfortunately... i was the top 5% not the 4% i needed to get ELC but i got recognitiion as "on-track" to statewide eligiblity??? dunno what that is but i heard its good for application?

if you guys need anything else to complete my chances whatevs just ask me ill be here hahah thanks so much guys for takin the time i really appreciate it!

■■■■ ma fault my uc gpa is actually 4.25… WOW thats stupid

I think you’ll get into one of the two. You’ve got really good scores and a nice GPA. Good luck!

thanks a lot yojoe!!! hahah

You seem to be right on track for these schools. What was your courseload like?

i have taken all honors and ap’s except for spanish both junior and sophomore year.
my ap’s include world history in sophomore and us history and environmental science in junior
i have basketball rather than p.e. and am on varsity
i have never taken a joke class like teacher aid or media arts i completed my visual performing arts requirement during the summer
i took the hardest classes i could like for english i took honors since no ap was provided and for math i took honors becuz ap is not provided until calculus which i am taking this year

good chances. you’ll get into one of the two, if not the two. apply to both.

that’s if you’re NOT applying to the college of chemistry and college of engineering at berkeley. those colleges generally require much higher stats, and the odds are even smaller.

oh helllll no no way college of chemistry haha wait i want to become a surgeon that is more biology isnt it not chemistry?

exacept for BS Chem, the ones you’re interested in are offered in the college of arts and sciences, luckily. :)

Hahahahahahahahaha yeaaaaaaaa thanks! :d

bummmmmmmp or what?

have you checked out UCSB and UCSD? those are fantastic schools too. I’d probably go for UCSB than UCLA. and I think your chances of getting into SB is much higher.

How come UCSB? I have not really considered it yet but since you know a lot about schools I can trust your opinion hahah.

You’ll get more attention at UCSB as it smaller than UCLA. it is also less competitive and it’s easier to get high grades which you would need when you apply to med school.

ooh those are great points. But, i kinda want to go to ucla since it has more prestige you know? something i can be proud of since many of the kids at my school get into ucsb and are complete idiots. but i think on a more general stage, ucsb is respectable regardless of the fact that idiots get accepted from my school! thanks for the input.

I guess there are idiots at UCLA too. heck, there are idiots in harvard or oxford too, depending on how you’d label them.

if your ultimate goal is to get into med school, then your undergrad school does not matter as much as your GPA does.

which applicant do you think will get into, say Stanford Med School, between the two applicants:

Appplicant A:
undergrad school - UCLA
GPA - 3.3
MCAT - 11.9

Applicant B:
Undergrad School - UCSB
GPA - 3.85
MCAT -11.8

is the disparity between the two curriculum that large?

that large as in my gpa will be affected that much

I think so. UCLA and Berkeley are notorious when it comes to grade deflation. Many faculty there would make simple lessons harder for their students. The consolation is that they’re more prestigious schools than is UCSB, and perhaps top employers are more impressed with them. But such thing does not exist at top med schools in general.
