Chance Me for UCLA and SDSU?

Hello there! I aspire to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) or San Diego State University (SDSU). I know my resumé isn’t very impressive, but I’d really appreciate it if you would give your opinion on which colleges would be fitting for me. Thanks in advance!

Overall unweighted high school GPA: 3.97
ACT composite score: 31
I am rank at 4/33 in my class.

In terms of classes, I have taken AP World History, AP Human Geo, AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Computer Science, AP English III, AP U.S. History, AP Psychology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP English IV, and AP Biology (12 AP classes total).

Extracurriculars:
ALA Girls State - I ran for Governor and won
Quiz Bowl - 9th - 12th grade; in 9th and 10th grade, we were state runner-up champions
STEM Festival - I won 2nd place in Biology in 11th grade
National Honor Society - 10th - 12th grade
Student Council - 11th and 12th grade; I was class representative in 11th, and President in 12th
Volunteering - I’ve volunteered at hospitals during 10th - 12th grade, and acquired over 200 hours.
Science Olympiad - I’ve won three awards during 11th - 12th grade
Yearbook - 11th, 12th
National History Day - 9th, 12th; I have advanced to state competition in both years.

I am also an Arkansan resident.

With all this, would I have a good chance at the UCLA or SDSU? I’d love to hear any and all opinions on this. Thanks again!

SDSU is certainly a safety for you unless you meant UCSD?
UCLA: (Low) Reach; depending on your other stats not mentioned (UC GPA…)

Intended major? CSU/UC’s do not consider class rankings.

The UC’s and CSU’s have their own GPA calculation and only use 10-11th grades in the calculation for the required a-g courses. Here is a list of the a-g course requirements needed to be completed by end of Senior year for you to qualify for admission. Pay attention to the Visual Performing arts year requirement.

To calculate your CSU/UC GPA, use this calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

The calculator calculates 3 GPA’s: Your UW UC GPA, Capped weighted UC GPA and Fully Weighted UC GPA.
Please post all 3.

As an Out of state applicant, only AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grades will be counted for the extra honors points. The capped weighted uses 8 semesters maximum while the Fully weighted will use an unlimited amount of honors points. HS designated Honors classes do not count for the extra honors points as an OOS applicant.

SDSU uses the capped weighted UC GPA.
UCLA will use all three GPA’s in the admission decisions.

SDSU admits by eligibility index and major. (UC GPA capped weighted x 200) + (ACT composite x10).
As an OOS applicant you want to be in the 1000+ EI range for the best chances.

UCLA admits by major for the Engineering college but for L&S, major is not considered so your intended major can make the difference.
Also you have personal insight essays and your EC’s which will contribute to your overall application review. UCLA also recommends SAT subject tests for specific majors so make sure you take what is recommended.

Your ACT is in range. If your UC GPA is 4.2+, just based on stats you stand a decent chance at an acceptance at UCLA but being one of the most popular UC’s, it is always a tough admit.

Last but not least, be aware that both SDSU and UCLA are public universities and they offer no financial aid to non-residents so expect to pay full price for SDSU at $36K/year to attend and $60K/year for UCLA.
