You should take SAT so it’s easier to measure. Oh what’s your rank?Your ECs is efficiency, I think if you reach the SAT range + good essay + good recommendation you’ll be fine. Do u choose ur major yet?
Chance me back:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=16750531

I don’t know my rank, but I’m pretty confident I’m top 10%. My intended major is either pre-pharmacy, or Biology/Chemistry. I’d like to go to pharmacy school as of now.
(oh and I just chanced you back! thanks!)

Hard to say without the SAT but so far, maybe a match to high match for both.
Your grades are great, classes are fairly rigorous, looks like you’re on the right track for the SAT but it’s hard to tell what you’d actually get. The thing is that by looking at your resume, I’m not sure what kind of person you are or what you’re interested in. …This is going to come out sounding kind of funny, and I mean no disrespect, but are you in any clubs that don’t have to do with the well-being of others? Nevertheless, you have a great chance at getting into UCLA and USC, from what I can tell from your resume so far.

Would you suggest joining some clubs that are more, like, activity based? Like, I don’t know, chess club or Lakers club or something like that?

bump…

I think you should join more clubs that are “activity based,” to show that you have some passions outside of schoolwork. While you may truly have a passion for helping others, colleges may see those community service clubs as just padding for your resume. I’m not an admissions officer though, I don’t know what goes on in their heads. This is just my opinion, and you don’t have to follow it.

SPORTS??? The reason I ask: many of your clubs can meet during lunches, whereas with sports you have actual meets, practices every day before and after school which means juggling/balancing your schedule and studies, then earning high grades shows a tough schedule and the colleges know that.
There were lots of kids in my children’s school that had perfect grades, scores and EC’s so their “resumes” looked great, but the Athletes seemed to be the ones getting into their schools.

I’m not terribly athletic, so joining a team would be out of the question, but maybe would saying I play something like badminton leisurely help me out?

No, being a casual athlete is nowhere near being the same as an athlete that has to go through try-outs and trials, and then practice 2 hours before school and 3 hours after school and then go to games that can take 3-4 hours. Then, winning a championship means that the whole team has to do post-season events and they HAVE to be really good in their sport.

It is not the same and many “academic-only” students don’t get it.
This is why the adcoms really look at athletes who have balanced their sports activities with their high performing academics AND their music practices. These kids get the first acceptances.

forgot to add:
UCLA and USC are big sports teams schools.

The first kids to get in were athletes from our kids’ schools with the following sports: Water polo, swim, gymnastics, football, cross, LaCross, tennis, soccer, field hockey, baseball and softball.

Our first student to get into Stanford and Harvard this year, is an athlete (Football and Track, with 2310 SAT, CIF in Track). Our first female student this year is also an athlete (Water polo & Swim, with 2370 SAT, CIF champ in swim)

Don’t pad your application mentioning badminton, which looks like you’re trying to add a sport just to get in, and its an insult to the kids who really “do” sports and get good grades.

If you get 2100+ on the SAT, both would be matches

Also, does anyone know the UCLA deal with letters of rec? I’m kinda confused, do they not even accept them?

Both are matches!! Merry Christmas and good luck!!

@crystal19: No, none of the UC’s accept letters of recommendation and expressly state that you do not send them. The same goes for transcripts UNLESS a specific campus asks that you send them for further evaluation of your application.

Would it be possible to, I don’t know, say that I have recommendations in the Additional Info section? Or would that turn off adcoms? I feel like it’s a bit ridiculous to not look at recommendations…

I feel as if those two schools are almost safety for you.
Regarding the application, I don’t really know about it but have friends who did that and are at berkeley

@crystal19 Those schools are SAFETIES for you. Merry Christmas and good luck!
