Hi all, I have been stocking these threads for close to 2 years now and am obsessing over admission statistics.
I applied to UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB and CAL for Fall 2015, I already Tagged and got approved for Davis.
Here are my stats:
GPA:3.3
major: Gender Studies
Prereq: in progess (not offered)
IGETC: Done
TAP: Yes, with one more class to finish in the spring.
EC: CKI, Founded a club, volunteer then worked at library, research assistant, honors program, presented at a research conference at CSULA(only CC student presenting).
PS: I was extremely happy with it and got good feedback for it.
Prequisites in progress for this winter because my CC did not offer it and I drive to SMC to take it and the commute is like over an hr both ways. I talked to an admissions counselor at UCLA and they said they would hold it against me for not having this prerep (only 1 prereq for Gender studies), but it makes me a stronger applicant for taking an initiative to seek out the class.
My EC are good, volunteered at my library then offered and took a job as a librarian’s assistant, founded a club 2 years ago, vice president of Circle K for 1 year, fundraising coordinator for Circle K for 1 semester prior. I did the TAP/honors program at my CC and will be certified for fall 2015.
I did not do so well my first year in CC because I had worked full time and did not care about school, did not do any EC too. But by my second year I met some cool professors that motivated me and offered me resources to get to a good school. I have an upward grade trend and have been on the dean’s list for 3 semesters in a row.
I really hope to go to UCLA or my other option is a CSU because I have to stay in LA due to me needing to work at my parent’s business (they are old and need my help). The average GPA for Gender Studies is 3.45 the past Fall 2014 and mine is 3.3, close but not there yet. I hope that TAP can help me gain admission. I’d love to hear any of your thoughts thank you.
@sammycatt They said they wouldn’t hold it against me. Sorry, typo! I spoke to a UCLA rep and she told me this. She also said IF i were to take it and showed that I went an extra mile (literally like 20 extra miles!), they would look at me for favorably. HOW MUCH more favorably, I dont know but at this point, I need to increase my chances as much as possible.
@lindyk8 it was a typo, I really meant stalking lol
@emiavery Thanks! Yeah, I called the department today and they said because most CCs don’t offer it, most students take it their first semester at UCLA.
I don’t know if you read responses on the UCLA thread but on the Decision portal they changed my first choice major (Pre-Psychology) to my alternate choice (Gender Studies) so I think that’s a pretty good indicator they’ve accepted me for Gender Studies. At least I hope!
@sammycatt a friend told me if you have taken a certain amount of womens’ related humanities classes (women’s psych, soc of women etc…) they will waive the Intro to Gender Studies prerequisite for you when you enroll.
I have been gluing my eyes to the UCLA thread. I check it more than my facebook…
I hope you get in your change in major seems like a hopeful sign. My alternate major is Asian American studies and it hasnt changed to that yet.
Im kinda worried bc my TAP counselor at my CC called me to sign the contract at school. She said she almost missed my name and almost forgot to send my certification in. I was so stressed from that! She could have literally ruined my future if she missed my name!
Good luck while I cry until decisions come out…then cry again regardless if good or bad news.
